Dealership Accounting Manager

Help Build the Accounting Function of a New Equipment Dealership

Opelika Equipment is seeking an experienced, hands-on accounting professional to help establish and manage the accounting and administrative function of our new equipment dealership.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys both doing the work and building the processes behind it. The person in this role will have meaningful responsibility from the beginning and will help develop the accounting procedures, internal controls, administrative systems, and operating routines that will support the dealership as it grows.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience as a Dealership Office Manager, Assistant Controller, Controller, or other accounting professional with substantial hands-on responsibility.

What You'll Be Responsible For

The Dealership Accounting Manager will have broad responsibility for the dealership's accounting and administrative activities, including:

Maintaining accurate general ledger and accounting records
Performing and managing the month-end close process
Preparing and recording journal entries, including month-end accruals
Reconciling bank and balance-sheet accounts
Preparing and reviewing financial statements and supporting schedules
Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable
Supporting equipment, parts, service, and other inventory-related accounting
Processing payroll and sales/service commissions accurately and timely
Maintaining appropriate cash controls and accounting procedures
Supporting tax, insurance, benefits, and other administrative requirements
Working effectively with outside accounting and professional resources
Establishing practical internal controls, procedures, and documentation as the dealership grows

Because Opelika Equipment is a startup, this is a hands-on position. The successful candidate should be equally comfortable completing routine accounting work and exercising sound judgment when more complex accounting questions arise.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for an experienced accounting professional who can take ownership of the accounting function while remaining comfortable with the hands-on work required in a startup dealership.

The strongest candidate will bring sound accounting judgment, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to investigate problems rather than simply make the numbers balance.

A degree in accounting is preferred, but substantial directly relevant experience and demonstrated accounting capability will also be considered.

Experience

Directly relevant dealership accounting experience is highly valued, particularly experience involving substantial hands-on responsibility for the accounting function. Experience in equipment, tractor, automotive, marine, powersports, commercial truck, or similar dealership environments is especially relevant.

Candidates with strong transferable accounting experience outside the dealership industry will also be considered.

The depth, relevance, and level of responsibility of a candidate's experience will be considered in determining compensation within the anticipated salary range.

The Opportunity

Rather than stepping into an established accounting department, you will have the opportunity to help build one from the beginning—working closely with dealership leadership to learn and implement the dealership's software, establish reliable accounting and administrative processes, and create a strong financial foundation for future growth.

As a new dealership, initial transaction volume will be relatively low. This provides an opportunity to learn the systems and the business while thoughtfully establishing sound processes, controls, and routines that can scale as operations grow.

This role may be especially attractive to an experienced dealership accounting professional who is ready for greater ownership and responsibility.

Compensation & Benefits

Anticipated base salary: $65,000–$85,000

Compensation within the anticipated range will be determined based on demonstrated accounting capability, directly relevant experience, and the final scope of responsibilities.

Exceptional candidates whose experience and capabilities support a broader scope of responsibility may be considered for compensation above the anticipated range.

Benefits are expected to include health insurance and paid time off. Additional benefits will continue to develop as the company grows.

Selection Process

Our selection process is designed to evaluate accounting capability as well as experience and overall fit for the position. Candidates who advance through the interview process should expect an in-person accounting assessment as part of the final evaluation process.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
