Job Title: Project Manager Practitioner

West Valley Cleanup Alliance is the prime contractor selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Phase 1B Deactivation & Demolition Contract at the West Valley Demonstration Project site. The site is a scenic 30-minute drive south of Buffalo, New York. In cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, West Valley Demonstration Project continues to decontaminate and decommission facilities at this site.

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF POSITION

Develop management and leadership skills/techniques while supporting more senior project management resources with projects. To support assigned resources, for tasks to safely achieve predetermined objectives of scope, cost, time, quality, and customer satisfaction and while gaining experience in the field of Project Management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline.
A minimum of six (6) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Experience must demonstrate progressive experience in managing tasks.
Must understand and be able to apply project management principles at the task level of project management principles including scope control, time management through schedule development and control, cost control, communications management through information distribution and performance reporting, team development, quality, procurement, and risk management as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of PM software (Primavera 6) and other tools preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

No certification required.
In this position the individual will prepare for the PMP7 certification.

Other Requirements:

Must possess knowledge of project management theories, principles, techniques, policies, regulations, and legal requirements
Must be able to anticipate, identify and resolve a wide variety of complex issues.
Must possess highly developed organizational skills and be able to manage projects and special assignments to deliver results on time and within budget.
Must have strong problem-solving skills.
Must be able to coordinate task activities and resources to meet objectives within established constraints of scope, time, cost, and quality.
Must have the ability to resolve issues that may arise due to differences between customer expectations and established objectives.
Must be able to negotiate a path forward that meets the objectives of the task within established constraints while maintaining a high degree of customer satisfaction.
Must be able to provide advice on issues that arise in tasks and to recommend approaches to resolve issues or solicit assistance from a more senior project management resource.
Must be able to resolve issues of conflict between team members or solicit assistance from a more senior project management resource.
Must be self-directed to establish priorities, work schedules, control cost and meet deadlines.
Must be able to interpret and follow a wide variety of guidelines, policies, laws and established practices to accomplish complex tasks.
Must be able to direct the work of others, develop and implement special projects and resources, write procedures and guidelines and mentor others.
Must be able to develop and execute short-term strategic plans.
Must be able to manage team members and clerical support as assigned and required to meet objectives.
Must possess ability to establish rapport with people easily.

Must possess mastery knowledge of industry specific software applications

Must be able to interface with individuals or groups from inside and outside of the organization, senior management, as well as high-ranking officials from outside the organization.
Must be able to justify, defend, negotiate, or settle matters involving significant or controversial issues in accordance with WVCA practices.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/SCOPE OF WORK

Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations.
Implement standards contained in the Company "Code of Business Ethics and Conduct," Corporate EEO practices and DOE directives.
Gain experience and knowledge in project management skills/techniques by performing a rotation of assignments on a variety of projects covering all areas of project management other than area of individual expertise.
Manage tasks by coordinating and overseeing established project costs, schedule, and technical baselines.
Develop and implement Project Implementation Plans (PIPs) as applicable by utilizing established WVCA Project Management Guidelines.
Communicate with internal and external customers by providing concise and accurate oral and written presentations regarding task implementation plans, status, changes and new approaches. Ensure timely submittal of all required progress and status reports.
Ensure progress of tasks is within schedule, cost, technical, and environmental baselines by managing task efforts.
Act as a project management advisor to assigned project teams.
Support completion of task objectives by conducting analysis of problems and developing and implementing alternative actions when necessary.
Prepare for the PMP7 certification exam by obtaining required number of hours of experience through rotational assignments to meet minimum qualifications to take the PMP7 certification exam.
Additional methods for exam preparation may include keeping current with project management skills and techniques; reading articles, journals, papers on the subject; or attending appropriate training, conferences, and seminars.
Regular in-person attendance is required.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
