Full Job Description

Position Summary

A Highway Construction Superintendent oversees daily operations on bridge, and highway construction projects. This role manages crews, subcontractors, equipment, schedules, safety compliance, and quality control to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise day-to-day construction activities
Coordinate field crews, subcontractors, inspectors, and suppliers
Read and interpret blueprints, project plans, and specifications
Monitor project schedules and adjust work plans as needed
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations
Enforce OSHA and company safety standards
Conduct site inspections and quality control checks
Track labor, materials, equipment usage, and production quantities
Communicate progress updates to project managers and clients
Resolve field issues, delays, and conflicts quickly
Manage traffic control operations and public safety requirements
Oversee Bridge operations
Maintain daily reports, logs, and documentation

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or related field preferred
5–10+ years of highway/heavy civil construction experience
Previous supervisory or foreman experience
Strong knowledge of DOT standards and specifications
Ability to read construction drawings and survey layouts
Valid driver’s license
OSHA 30 certification preferred
Experience with scheduling software and construction management systems is a plus

Work Environment

Outdoor construction sites in varying weather conditions

Must be willing to travel for weeks at a time

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
Climb ladders, slopes, and excavation areas
Wear required PPE at all times
