Full Job Description

Position Summary

This position is for current Blue Ridge CTC students only.

We seek a student tutor within the Allied Health Science Department to help our students excel academically. You will provide non-classroom instruction to students on an individual or small-group basis.
Hours can be completed through a flexible schedule Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

Duties and Responsibilities

Help students understand key concepts by reviewing classroom or curriculum topics and assignments
Teach skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills, and approaches to answering test questions
Offer feedback on progress toward learning goals
Work with Allied Health Science instructors to create review materials and provide feedback as needed
Tutors will have set hours within the Allied Health Science labs to work with individuals or small groups who walk in seeking tutoring
Tutors will also be available to work with students who schedule appointments in advance
Other duties as assigned by the Allied Health Science instructors and Academic Support Specialist

Minimum Qualifications

Student tutors are expected to:

Be highly motivated and high-performing students with previous success in at least two of the following courses: Microbiology, Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Human Body, General Chemistry, or General Physical Science
Have a GPA of at least 3.5
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to build rapport with students
Have reliable transportation
Previous experience with tutoring or other related fields is a plus
