This is a Part Time Position at 19 hours/week Monday through Friday
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Senior Center Director, develop and manage the programs and activities of the Holden Senior Center. Assist in the development and management of the programs, activities and services of the Holden Senior Center.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*:
· Design, develop and implement programs, activities and services at the Senior Center to assist and interest elders, age 60 and over, relating to health and wellness, recreation, education and social services; efforts shall be made to implement and continue intergenerational programs as well.
· Research and create new programming of interest to multiple generations of seniors.
· Work with town groups and departments (Women’s group, Fire Department, etc) to provide a variety of programs for seniors.
· Work with Senior Center Director to plan and hold special events i.e., Strawberry Festival; Volunteer Recognition; Annual Picnic and Victorian Tea.
· Identify timely issues or other areas that might be appropriate for programming by keeping informed through the media, elder network contacts and the community at large.
· Encourage input from seniors, caregivers and elder service providers regarding ideas for programs; when feasible, enlist the assistance of these individuals to provide or promote the programs.
· Develop new programming ideas by encouraging involvement and suggestions from elders, caregivers, students and the community at large.
· Maintain existing programs and room schedules.
· Plan for refreshments for all programs and make sure that the Senior Center has supplies, such as cups, plates, coffee, creamer, etc.
· Work with Senior Center Director to apply for Cultural Council grants to expand offerings.
· Provide program information and schedule to secretary for submission in monthly newsletter/calendar.
· Generate publicity for programs through press releases, fliers, and other communication venues.
· Research anticipated costs for any programs, activities, services or materials and obtains approval from Senior Center Director prior to incurring any such expenses.
· Assist Senior Center Director with scheduling both regular and special programs to maximize participation and make effective use of the facility.
· Coordinating program related room set-ups and breakdowns, or equipment needs by submitting a DPW work order.
· Communicate monthly schedule to reception desk staff and others as needed.
· Attend staff meetings and professional conferences as required.
· Answer Senior Center phone as needed as back up to the Senior Center clerk.
· Access MySeniorCenter program as needed.
· Other related duties.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Excellent planning and organizational ability.
· Experience in program development and coordination.
· Basic computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher
· Must be able to work with seniors and understand their strength and limitations
· Must be able to interact effectively and tactfully with the public, peers and Town personnel
· Ability to deal with interruptions.
· Ability to effectively multi-task.
· Ability to plan, supervise, and coordinate work of both volunteers and professional staff.
· Ability to adapt programs to the needs of senior citizens and to instruct various activities.
