Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Cannabis Extraction Lab Technician to conduct the day-to-day operations of our extraction lab. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in cannabis extraction processes and a deep understanding of scientific methodologies, equipment, and safety protocols. As the Lab Technician, you will ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance are maintained.
Key Responsibilities:
- Extraction & Processing Oversight: Conduct all aspects of cannabis extraction, including but not limited to ethanol extraction, filtration, and distillation. Ensure all processes meet the company's quality standards and are performed according to established SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
- Equipment Maintenance & Calibration: Conduct and maintain extraction, filtration, and distillation equipment. Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of machines to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
- Safety & Compliance: Maintain a safe working environment by strictly adhering to safety guidelines and best practices for handling solvents and chemicals. Monitor lab conditions, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company-specific procedures.
- Lab Sanitation & Cleanliness: Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and sanitation in the lab, including daily cleaning protocols for equipment, tools, and workspaces.
- Team Player: Foster a collaborative and positive team environment focused on productivity and safety.
- Quality Control & Documentation: Adhere to quality control measures for all extraction batches, ensuring products meet company specifications and regulatory standards. Accurately maintain detailed records of all extraction processes, results, and equipment usage.
- Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting: Identify and address operational issues related to equipment malfunctions or safety concerns. Troubleshoot extraction processes and implement improvements as necessary.
- Regulatory Compliance & Reporting: Stay current with all relevant laws and regulations regarding cannabis extraction and processing. Ensure that the lab remains compliant with all regulatory requirements and assist with audits or inspections as needed.
Qualifications:
- Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in cannabis extraction, laboratory management, or a related field. Prior experience in extraction methods such as ethanol and/or solventless extractions is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of extraction, filtration, and distillation methods, as well as the equipment used in these processes. Familiarity with chromatography, winterization, and decarboxylation is a plus.
- Safety & Compliance: In-depth knowledge of safety protocols related to the handling of solvents, chemicals, and laboratory equipment. Must have experience working in a regulated environment and adhering to SOPs.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to maintain detailed records, track inventory, and document processes accurately. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Communication & Teamwork: Excellent communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively as a team.
- Technical Aptitude: Comfortable with lab technology, including lab management software and data tracking systems.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds and work in a physically demanding lab environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or a related field.
- Certifications or additional training in cannabis extraction, safety procedures, or lab management.
- Experience in abiding to compliance and quality assurance protocols within the cannabis industry.
