New York City Muslim Center (NYCMC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and home to the largest Islamic Center in New York City. Our 60,000 sq. ft. facility impacts over 2,000 people weekly and houses key institutions including:

High school students need more than enough credits to graduate.
They need intellectual discipline.
The Opportunity
We are looking for exceptional High School Teachers across all core subject areas, including English Language Arts, mathematics, science, social studies, technology, and related disciplines.
A strong high school classroom does more than cover required material.
It prepares students to think independently, manage advanced work, defend their conclusions, and enter college or the workforce with confidence.
You will be responsible for delivering rigorous, standards-aligned instruction while building a classroom culture rooted in intellectual seriousness, academic integrity, responsibility, curiosity, and high expectations.
Depending on your expertise and the school’s instructional schedule, you may teach one or more high school courses within your primary content area.
You will not simply help students complete another year of school.
You will help prepare them for what comes after it.
What You’ll Do
1. Deliver Rigorous High School Instruction
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons in your assigned subject area
- Teach assigned courses with clear objectives, strong pacing, and appropriate academic rigor
- Explain complex concepts clearly without oversimplifying the material
- Balance direct instruction, discussion, research, collaborative work, projects, and independent analysis
- Connect course content across units, disciplines, and real-world applications
- Maintain organized lesson plans, instructional resources, assignments, and course records
2. Develop Independent and Analytical Thinkers
- Require students to explain, defend, and revise their thinking
- Teach students to distinguish strong evidence from unsupported claims
- Strengthen students’ research, reasoning, writing, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Encourage students to ask meaningful questions and challenge weak conclusions respectfully
- Help students evaluate the credibility of information and sources
- Prepare students to complete complex assignments with increasing independence
3. Prepare Students for Regents, College, and Careers
- Align instruction with applicable New York State standards and Regents expectations
- Develop students’ academic reading, writing, study, research, and examination skills
- Provide targeted preparation for Regents examinations and other required assessments
- Introduce students to college majors, career pathways, and real-world applications connected to the subject
- Help students understand the expectations of advanced high school and college-level coursework
- Coordinate with school leadership regarding students who need academic intervention or enrichment
4. Use Assessment to Strengthen Learning
- Develop and administer quizzes, examinations, essays, projects, presentations, and performance tasks
- Use formative assessments to identify misconceptions and unfinished learning
- Analyze student work to determine what must be reinforced or retaught
- Provide timely, specific, and actionable feedback
- Maintain accurate grades and communicate progress clearly
- Evaluate students on understanding, reasoning, application, and communication—not only memorization
5. Differentiate and Support Student Growth
- Differentiate instruction for students with varying levels of academic readiness
- Provide scaffolding for students who struggle with reading, writing, vocabulary, mathematics, organization, or analysis
- Create enrichment opportunities for students prepared for advanced study
- Provide tutoring, office hours, review sessions, or targeted support when required
- Collaborate with student-support personnel and families when additional intervention is necessary
- Help students develop the habits required for long-term academic success
6. Build a Focused and Respectful Classroom
- Establish routines that protect instructional time
- Maintain high expectations for preparation, participation, conduct, and academic integrity
- Address incomplete work, disengagement, plagiarism, and disruptive behavior consistently
- Create an environment where students can ask questions without lowering expectations for serious effort
- Promote respectful discussion, intellectual honesty, and evidence-based disagreement
- Teach students to manage deadlines, responsibilities, and long-term assignments
7. Contribute to the Wellspring School Model
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, planning sessions, and school-wide initiatives
- Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen curriculum alignment and instructional consistency
- Communicate professionally and proactively with students, parents, and school leadership
- Participate in student supervision, school events, testing, and other assigned responsibilities
- Support the Islamic values, expectations, and culture of NYCMC Wellspring Schools
- Model professionalism, integrity, responsibility, curiosity, urgency, and continuous improvement

Required Qualifications
Salary Range: $60,000–$100,000, based on qualifications and relevant experience.
- Master’s degree in Education, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Technology, or a closely related field
- At least three years in a lead KG-12th Grade lead teaching role
- New York State teaching certification or eligibility for certification
- Strong command of the content required for the assigned high school courses
- Experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or supporting high school-aged students
- Ability to plan and deliver organized, standards-aligned instruction
- Strong classroom-management and student-engagement skills
- Ability to differentiate instruction for students with different academic needs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to use assessment data to guide instructional decisions
- Proficiency with educational technology and digital learning platforms
- Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, administrators, students, and families
