As we continue expanding our tax preparation and advisory services, we are looking for an experienced Tax Associate to join our team in Syosset, New York.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Tax Associate with a strong background working in a CPA or public accounting firm.

This is a hands-on tax position and does not require management experience. The ideal candidate will be comfortable preparing a variety of individual and business tax returns, communicating with clients, identifying outstanding information, and working closely with managers and firm leadership to deliver accurate, timely work.

Responsibilities

Prepare federal, state, and local individual, corporate, partnership, trust, and estate tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1120, 1120-S, 1065, and 1041.
Prepare tax extensions, estimated tax calculations, projections, and related workpapers.
Review client financial information and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Organize tax workpapers and identify missing information needed to complete engagements.
Communicate professionally with clients regarding tax documents, open items, deadlines, and general questions.
Assist with tax research, planning opportunities, and responses to federal and state tax notices.
Perform a thorough self-review of completed returns before submitting them for managerial review.
Maintain accurate engagement statuses and meet internal and external deadlines.
Collaborate with managers, partners, and other team members across Harbor’s accounting firms.
Stay informed regarding changes to federal, state, and local tax laws.
Use tax preparation and workflow technology efficiently while following firm procedures and quality standards.

Qualifications

Minimum of five years of recent tax preparation experience within a CPA firm or public accounting environment required.
Experience preparing both individual and business tax returns required.
CPA or Enrolled Agent designation strongly preferred but not required.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or a related field preferred.
Strong understanding of federal and state tax compliance requirements.
Experience with CCH ProSystem fx Tax, SurePrep, or comparable tax software is a plus.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
Professional written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines during busy periods.
Ability to work additional hours when needed during peak tax seasons.
Valid PTIN or ability to obtain one.

Compensation will be based on the candidate’s experience, technical knowledge, professional credentials, and qualifications.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
