Translator

Location: Carmel, IN

Compensation: $60k/yr

Hours: 8am ~ 5pm

Employment Type: Full-Time, On-site

Company Overview

A global automotive supplier specializing in interior materials and components. The company supports major automotive manufacturers through product development, material selection, and manufacturing processes such as cutting, molding, and sewing. Its operations emphasize product quality, reliable delivery, and continuous improvement.

Position Summary

This position provides Japanese-English interpretation and translation for employees, management, visitors, customers, and vendors. The role also supports HR administration, Japanese expatriate employees and their families, visitors, travel coordination, and general office operations.

Key Responsibilities

Translate business, technical, operational, and administrative documents between Japanese and English
Interpret during individual and group meetings involving employees, management, customers, visitors, or vendors
Prepare meeting minutes, emails, reports, and other business documents in both languages
Accurately communicate the meaning, intent, and nuances of technical and business discussions
Assist Japanese visitors and expatriate employees and their families with accommodations, housing, schooling, medical matters, and other business-related needs
Coordinate travel arrangements and process related expense reports and invoices
Support HR functions, including payroll assistance, orientation preparation, and Form I-9 tracking
Coordinate company vehicles, cell phone accounts, office supplies, promotional items, and other administrative resources
Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and company information
Adjust the daily schedule as necessary to support company functions, management, visitors, and expatriate families

Qualifications

Required:

Expert Japanese language ability and advanced professional English communication skills
Ability to interpret and prepare professional documents in Japanese and English
Ability to accurately convey context and meaning beyond literal translation
Experience working in a manufacturing environment
Ability to manage multiple priorities and frequent interruptions while maintaining accuracy
Strong professionalism, discretion, organization, and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Ability to interpret business, operating, maintenance, procedural, and legal documents
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from different cultural and professional backgrounds
Ability to speak effectively before small and large groups

Preferred:

1–3 years of professional Japanese-English interpretation or translation experience
Experience interpreting management, production, quality, or similar business meetings
Automotive manufacturing experience
Strong stakeholder coordination and prioritization skills

Other Details

This position requires schedule flexibility based on business functions and support needs involving Japanese management, employees, visitors, and expatriate families.
