Position Overview

Forge & Vine at The Groton Inn is seeking an experienced and passionate Sous Chef to join our culinary leadership team. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supporting the daily culinary operations of both our award-winning restaurant and our growing banquet and catering program. The ideal candidate thrives in a high-volume, fast-paced environment and is committed to delivering exceptional food quality and memorable guest experiences across restaurant service, weddings, private events, and special functions.

Working closely with the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef will oversee kitchen operations, uphold culinary standards, mentor team members, and help execute both à la carte and banquet service with consistency, creativity, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Executive Chef in all aspects of kitchen management and daily operations for both Forge & Vine and banquet culinary services.
Lead and supervise the kitchen team to ensure quality, consistency, efficiency, and teamwork.
Oversee food production for restaurant service, weddings, private events, catering, and banquet functions.
Assist in menu planning and development, incorporating seasonal ingredients and creative offerings for both restaurant and event menus.
Monitor food preparation, presentation, and portion control to uphold culinary and brand standards.
Train, mentor, and develop kitchen staff while fostering a positive, respectful, and professional work environment.
Manage inventory, monitor food costs, and place food and supply orders as needed.
Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen at all times.
Collaborate with the front-of-house and banquet teams to ensure seamless execution of restaurant and event service.
Assist with scheduling, production planning, and execution for high-volume banquet functions and special events.

Qualifications

2+ years of experience as a Sous Chef or similar leadership role in a high-volume restaurant, hotel, or catering operation.
Experience overseeing banquet, catering, wedding, or large-scale event production.
Solid understanding of kitchen operations, food safety, sanitation, and inventory management.
Strong culinary foundation with knowledge of diverse cooking techniques and cuisines.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop a culinary team.
Excellent organizational, time management, communication, and multitasking skills.
Ability to perform effectively under pressure while managing multiple service styles.
ServSafe Certification or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
