About PFCTrials

Patients First Clinical Trials (PFCTrials) is a community-focused, patient-centric research site dedicated to connecting diverse patient populations with innovative clinical trials. Our mission is to advance patient care through ethical, high-quality research while fostering strong relationships with local practices and the community.

Position Summary: PFCTrials is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) Clinical Research Specialist (5+ Yrs Experience) with strong clinical and patient care experience to provide medical oversight, support patient care, ensure protocol adherence, and collaborate with the study team. This role is ideal for clinicians who want to contribute to innovative research while maintaining direct patient care involvement.

Schedule: 2 days per week Mon – Fri (consistent schedule based on your availability)

Clinic Hours: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

Clinic Location: Lutherville, MD

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Oversight

Assist the Principal Investigator/Director of Research in protocol implementation and study oversight.
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history, concomitant medications, physical exams (as within scope of practice), laboratory review, ECG review, and adverse event evaluation.
Administer medication and injections, support procedures (e.g. ECG)
Collaborate and support research team on protocol adherence, data collection, specimen collection and processing.

Safety Monitoring

Evaluate and document adverse events (AEs) and serious adverse events (SAEs)
Assess causality and severity
Ensure appropriate medical follow-up

Patient Care & Engagement

Build rapport with participants and provide guidance throughout the study.
Obtain informed consent and clearly explain study procedures.

Informed Consent Support

Assist coordinators in explaining study procedures
Answer participant medical questions during informed consent discussions

Protocol Compliance

Maintain adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and protocol requirements
Participate in investigator meetings and study training
Support monitoring visits, audits, and regulatory inspections

Regulatory Compliance & Documentation

Ensure all study activities comply with GCP, FDA, and IRB requirements.
Review source documents and eCRFs for accuracy and completeness.
Assist with monitoring visits, audits, and inspections.

Enrolment & Recruitment

Implement strategies to maximize participant recruitment, retention and adherence.
Assist in identifying potential participants
Review patient charts for eligibility
Support recruitment strategies when needed

Collaboration

Work closely with the Principal Investigator, Research Coordinator, and study staff.
Provide mentorship and guidance on clinical aspects of trials.
Collaborate with sponsors and CROs as needed.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

Licensed (NP) in Maryland

Experience:

Minimum 5+ years of clinical/patient care experience, excluding practicum with proficiency in performing medical procedures such as IV insertion, phlebotomy, infusion, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience in fast-paced clinical settings such as large hospital setting, urgent care centers, ERs, outpatient clinics.
Experience treating diverse adult medical specialties (e.g. Family medicine, cardiology, neurology, endocrinology/metabolic.
Knowledge of HIPPA, GCP, FDA regulations, and IRB compliance.
Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient and team interactions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior Sub-Investigator or research experience.
Familiarity with electronic systems like EDC/CTMS and clinical trial documentation.
Familiarity with adverse event reporting
Commitment to community engagement and diverse patient recruitment.
Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credentials or prior experience in nutrition counseling, weight management, diabetes education, or lifestyle modification programs is highly desirable

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Small, fast-paced open office environment with moderate noise levels. Use of phones and computers for extended periods of time. Utilize office equipment and communication technologies for conference calls and teleconference meetings/webinars. Requires general mobility to move through the facility. Ability to lift to 25 pounds. Prolonged sitting and computer use. Frequent interaction with staff and customers via phone, in person, email, and other mediums. Normal sitting and standing activities for an office environment.
