The Oral Surgery Assistant is an essential member of the surgical team, providing exceptional clinical support to the oral surgeon while delivering a safe, comfortable, and positive experience for every patient. This role is responsible for preparing patients and treatment rooms, assisting during surgical procedures, maintaining strict infection control standards, and supporting patients throughout their surgical journey—from pre-operative preparation through post-operative care.

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Dental Assistant with surgical experience

CPR/BLS certification

Experience with IV sedation procedures preferred

Knowledge of dental software systems (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft) is a plus

The Oral Surgery Assistant is an integral member of the surgical team, supporting the oral surgeon in delivering exceptional patient care throughout the surgical experience. This role is responsible for preparing patients and surgical operatories, assisting during oral surgery procedures, maintaining surgical instruments and equipment, and ensuring a safe, clean, and efficient clinical environment. From pre-operative preparation through post-operative care, the Oral Surgery Assistant plays a vital role in creating a positive patient experience while maintaining the highest standards of infection control, safety, compliance, and clinical excellence in a fast-paced oral surgery practice.
- Prepare surgical operatories, instruments, equipment, and supplies for oral surgery procedures.

Assist the oral surgeon during procedures, including extractions, dental implant placement, bone grafting, biopsies, and sedation cases.

Prepare patients for surgery by reviewing medical histories, obtaining vital signs (when certified), and ensuring required documentation is complete.

Maintain aseptic technique and adhere to OSHA, CDC, HIPAA, and infection control standards.

Monitor patient comfort and assist with patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures.

Take and process dental radiographs and CBCT scans in accordance with state regulations.

Provide patients and caregivers with pre-operative and post-operative instructions and reinforce home care recommendations.

Accurately document patient information, treatment, and clinical notes in the electronic health record.

Clean, disinfect, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and treatment areas.

Monitor, stock, and order surgical supplies and materials as needed.

Support efficient patient flow and collaborate with the surgical team to ensure a positive patient experience.

Participate in training, team meetings, and other duties as assigned.
