This position will begin in a Gallery Associate training role for the first 90 days. Upon successful completion of training, the position will be transitioned into a Fine Art Sales Consultant role, which includes hourly pay plus uncapped sales commissions.

FIRST 90 DAYS in GALLERY ASSOCIATE ROLE (Hourly Only)
Position Title: Gallery Associate

Job Summary:
The Gallery Associate is a full-time position (40 hours) that offers significant opportunities for career advancement in the gallery industry. The Gallery Associate with Marketing Responsibilities is a dynamic role that blends gallery operations with digital marketing initiatives to promote the gallery's exhibitions, events, and artists effectively. With a focus on maintaining the gallery's online presence through website management, social media engagement, and email marketing campaigns, this role plays a crucial part in enhancing the gallery's visibility and engaging with its audience. The ideal candidate will possess strong customer service skills, excellent communication abilities, and proficiency in graphic design and social media strategy. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a passion for fine art and a desire to learn about the gallery industry while contributing to its growth and success.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Artwork Inventory Management and Documentation:
- Maintains accurate records of artwork in inventory software, including artist name, title, medium, dimensions, weights, photos, and acquisition details.
- Updates inventory software with new artwork acquisitions, consignments, and changes in artwork status (e.g., location, availability).
- Maintains documentation for artwork including price cards, condition reports, and certificates of authenticity.
- Conducts regular audits and inventory checks to reconcile physical artwork inventory with digital records.
- Identifies discrepancies or missing artwork and investigates discrepancies to ensure accuracy in inventory records.
2. Artwork Display and Storage:
- Hangs and maintain gallery displays to ensure artwork is presented effectively.
- Handle fine art professionally, including packaging, shipping, and receiving artwork shipments.
- Maintains artwork price tags to ensure they accurately reflect the artist’s name, title, price, dimensions, and other relevant details.
- Movement and hanging of artwork for exhibitions, loans, sales, or other purposes, ensuring proper packing, shipping, and handling procedures are followed.
- Ensures proper storage conditions for artwork, including climate control, lighting, and security measures to prevent damage or theft.
- Maintains clean and organized artwork storage areas to facilitate easy access.
3. Marketing Responsibilities:
- Manage and update the gallery's website and social media platforms, ensuring that all new artwork releases are uploaded and content is regularly refreshed and engaging.
- Contribute to the social media pages for the gallery to promote online visibility and audience engagement.
- Create and edit short-form videos tailored for various social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok to showcase gallery exhibitions, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and artist highlights.
- Monitor social media channels for engagement, respond to inquiries and comments, and actively engage with followers to foster a sense of community and dialogue around gallery content and events.
- Distributes promotional flyers to local businesses to support community engagement and increase attendance for gallery events and exhibitions.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Proven track record of providing exceptional customer service, with the ability to engage with gallery visitors and create positive interactions.
- Demonstrated proficiency in both verbal and written communication, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
- Experience in graphic design with a keen eye for aesthetics and visual storytelling.
- In-depth understanding of social media strategy and content creation, with hands-on experience in short-form video editing for platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.
- Ability to thrive both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Genuine passion for fine art and a strong desire to learn about the gallery industry, with a genuine enthusiasm for promoting artists and their work to a broader audience.
- Applies foundational knowledge of art history and artistic techniques to engage visitors, support sales conversations, and provide context for artworks on display.
After the 90-day training period, the candidate will be transitioned into a hybrid Gallery Associate / Fine Art Sales Consultant position with hourly compensation and uncapped sales commission opportunities:
Fine Art Sales:
- Welcome gallery visitors and engage with them to understand their preferences and interests.
- Provide knowledgeable guidance and information about the artwork on display.
- Perform extensive research on gallery artists’ background, process, technique,
- Assist clients in the selection, pricing, and purchase process of artwork.
- Cultivate relationships with collectors, art enthusiasts, and potential buyers to drive sales.
- Follow up with clients to provide additional information, address questions, and facilitate sales transactions.
- Stay informed of new insights, tools, training opportunities, and strategies for effective sales growth.
- Develop leads and manage opportunities through all pipeline stages (prospecting, price request management, lead development & nurturing, qualification, proposal, negotiation, and closing)
- Manage post-sale responsibilities of invoicing, payment, packaging, shipping, framing, artwork documentation, receipts, etc.).
Client Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to understand their collecting interests and preferences.
- Keep detailed records of client interactions, preferences, and purchase history.
- Proactively outreach to clients with updates on new artwork, exhibitions, and gallery events.
- Provide personalized recommendations based on clients' tastes and preferences.
Art Market Knowledge:
- Stay informed about current trends, artists, and developments in the art market.
- Research artists and artwork to enhance product knowledge and sales effectiveness.
- Attend art fairs, exhibitions, and industry events to stay connected with the art community and identify sales opportunities.
- Share insights and recommendations with the gallery team to inform curatorial decisions and sales strategies.
Gallery Operations Support:
- Assist with gallery operations, including inventory management, receiving/shipping/labeling of artwork, and gallery maintenance.
- Regularly contribute ideas and content for gallery websites, social media accounts, and other promotions.
- Collaborate with the gallery team to ensure the smooth functioning of day-to-day operations.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of sales and marketing strategies to drive revenue growth.
- Support gallery events, openings, and exhibitions by assisting visitors and promoting artwork.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in art history, Fine Arts, Arts Management, or a related field (preferred).
- Proven experience in art sales, preferably in a gallery or art-related setting.
- Strong sales and negotiation skills, with a track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
- Ability to follow a structured sales methodology with a focus on relationship management and closing sales.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with clients and staff effectively.
- Passion for art and a good understanding of art history, contemporary art trends, and artists.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and familiarity with art inventory management systems, and customer relationship management tools.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required during gallery events and openings.
Hours & Availability:
We’re open daily from 10:00 AM–6:00 PM, so this role requires availability on weekends in addition to weekday shifts. Flexibility is appreciated during busy periods and events.
