Full Job Description

Job Overview

Augusta Levy Behavioral Services is seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead our organization's financial operations and support our mission of empowering individuals through high-quality behavioral and social services. Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the COO, the Controller serves as a key member of the leadership team, overseeing accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, revenue cycle management, grants, audits, and financial planning. The position also supervises the Medical Biller and Accounts/Facility Manager.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with strong nonprofit accounting experience who thrives in a mission-driven environment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring financial stability, supporting organizational growth, improving operational efficiency, and providing meaningful financial analysis to executive leadership and the Board of Directors. Experience with healthcare reimbursement, Medicaid, grants, and nonprofit financial management is highly desirable.

Duties

Lead all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, cash management, and fixed assets.
Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Develop, monitor, and analyze organizational budgets, forecasts, and cash flow.
Oversee Medicaid, insurance, private pay, and other reimbursement processes to maximize revenue.
Monitor billing, collections, accounts receivable, and claim denials while ensuring payer compliance.
Manage grant financial reporting, restricted funds, and grant compliance requirements.
Coordinate annual financial audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.
Prepare financial reports and presentations for executive leadership, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
Analyze program profitability, staffing costs, reimbursement trends, and financial performance.
Develop financial models to support strategic planning, new programs, and organizational growth.
Establish and maintain strong internal financial controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
Supervise and mentor finance team members while promoting accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with department leaders to support operational and financial decision-making.

Skills

Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
Experience with healthcare finance, Medicaid, insurance reimbursement, and revenue cycle management.
Financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
Grant accounting and compliance experience.
Financial analysis, reporting, and strategic planning.
Advanced Microsoft Excel and accounting software proficiency.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to interpret complex financial data and present actionable recommendations.
Strong leadership, supervisory, and team development skills.
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional judgment.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
