Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Level 2 Technical Support Specialist to join our IT team. This role serves as a critical escalation point for technical issues and plays a key role in maintaining the digital infrastructure across multiple locations.

Technical Support & Customer Service

Provide exceptional customer service while answering phones and assisting users both remotely and in person.
Travel to multiple locations to provide on-site technical assistance.
Create and manage helpdesk tickets to ensure all issues are tracked, prioritized, and resolved efficiently.
Act as the Tier 2 escalation point for complex hardware and software issues, including system crashes and BSOD diagnostics.
Perform foundational Windows troubleshooting including Event Viewer analysis, service restarts, profile repairs, Windows Update issues, and general OS-level diagnostics on Windows 10/11 endpoints.
Diagnose and resolve website accessibility issues, including blocked URLs, SSL/TLS certificate errors, DNS resolution failures, and firewall/content filter conflicts affecting end users.
Demonstrate the ability to quickly learn and support unfamiliar department-specific applications; expected to research, self-train, and adapt to new software tools with minimal ramp-up time regardless of prior exposure.

Infrastructure Support

PC Deployment: Execute advanced PC deployment tasks including creating and deploying system images, performing profile migrations and backups, and configuring new workstations for county staff.
Network Shared Drives: Map and troubleshoot network shared drives for end users, including resolving disconnected drive letters, permission issues, and UNC path configuration across departments.
Network Printer Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve county-wide network printer issues including offline status, stuck print queues, driver reinstallation, TCP/IP port configuration, and connectivity problems across wired and wireless environments.
VoIP Phone Support: Understand and troubleshoot VoIP phone systems, including the network daisy-chain setup where the phone connects to the PC which connects to the wall network jack — diagnosing issues at each point in that chain including switch port, VLAN tagging, and QoS conflicts.
Department-Specific Applications: Support a diverse portfolio of department-specific applications — researching and learning new applications as needed.
Wi-Fi Networking: Lead the physical setup and configuration of Wi-Fi networking at multiple locations to ensure reliable connectivity.

Networking Knowledge

IP & DNS Lookup: Ability to locate a machine's IP address and DNS configuration using ipconfig /all, Network Settings, and other built-in Windows tools to assist in diagnosing connectivity issues.
Globe Icon / No Internet: Understand what the globe icon in the Windows system tray indicates — no default gateway, DNS failure, or limited connectivity — and follow the appropriate troubleshooting steps to identify whether the issue is local (NIC, cable, driver) or upstream (switch, DHCP, ISP).
TCP/IP Fundamentals: Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and how they interact — including how to release/renew IP addresses, flush DNS cache, and trace routing paths using tools like ping, tracert, and nslookup.
Network Connectivity: Proficiency troubleshooting connectivity for network drives, printers, VoIP devices, and Wi-Fi deployments across multiple sites.

Documentation & Projects

Document all helpdesk tickets thoroughly and accurately, including a clear description of the issue, troubleshooting steps taken, root cause identified, and resolution applied — ensuring tickets are detailed enough for any technician to reference in the event of a recurring issue.
Lead technical writing initiatives to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for internal IT use.
Develop user-facing How-To guides to promote self-service and reduce recurring tickets.
Maintain accurate asset management records and network documentation.

Technical Requirements

Operating Systems: Advanced knowledge of Windows 10/11 Pro and basic Windows Server environments.
Cloud & Identity: Hands-on experience with Azure AD/Entra ID, M365 Admin Center, and on-premise Active Directory.
Networking: Proficiency in TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and troubleshooting connectivity for network drives, printers, VoIP phones, and Wi-Fi deployments.
System Maintenance: Familiarity with environment-freezing software (e.g., Deep Freeze) for public-use PC management.
Deployment Tools: Proficiency in PC imaging software (MDT, SmartDeploy, Acronis, or similar).
VoIP: Understanding of VoIP phone systems and their network topology within a county infrastructure.

Qualifications

3+ years of experience in a technical support or help desk role.
Candidates must be able to perform all essential duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description.
Proven ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical staff over the phone and in person.
Excellent technical writing skills for documenting procedures and SOPs.
Ability to travel between various local sites as needed.
Willingness to work select Saturdays on a rotating basis for coverage.

Pay: $24.34 - $29.31 per hour
