Start a Career in a Specialty Trade
Do you like working with your hands, learning how things go together, and seeing the result of a day's work?
Dod Fireplace Installations is hiring an Entry-Level Installation Technician to help install fireplaces, stoves, inserts, venting systems, chimney components, and related hearth products in residential homes and new construction.
No fireplace or trade experience is required. This is a paid training position for someone who is dependable, willing to learn, comfortable with physical work, and interested in building a long-term skilled-trades career.
You will begin by working alongside experienced technicians, learning tools, jobsite preparation, installation methods, manufacturer requirements, safety practices, documentation, and customer-home professionalism.
What You'll Do
- Assist experienced technicians with residential fireplace, stove, insert, venting, chimney, mantel, and related hearth installations.
- Load, unload, stage, and transport products, tools, venting, and job materials.
- Prepare and protect job sites, including floors, walls, furniture, and customer property.
- Use common hand tools, power tools, ladders, measuring equipment, and installation materials safely.
- Learn to read manufacturer instructions, job notes, plans, measurements, and installation requirements.
- Follow company safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.
- Document job progress accurately using photos, notes, checklists, and company software.
- Maintain clean, organized job sites, company vehicles, tools, equipment, and assigned materials.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners, builders, coworkers, and the office.
- Accept coaching, ask questions, and steadily work toward completing standard installations independently.
Minimum Qualifications
- No prior trade or fireplace experience is required.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality - you show up on time and ready to work.
- Valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable for operating company vehicles.
- Ability to lift and maneuver approximately 50-75 pounds.
- Ability to work on ladders and roofs and in attics, crawlspaces, unfinished construction, heat, cold, and changing weather conditions.
- Ability to follow directions, learn new skills, accept feedback, and ask questions when something is unclear.
- Professional conduct and respect for customers, coworkers, company property, and customers' homes.
- Comfort using a smartphone and learning company software for job photos, notes, and checklists.
Experience We Value
The following experience is helpful, but none of it is required:
- Major home-appliance delivery or installation
- Construction, remodeling, carpentry, roofing, warehouse, maintenance, or mechanical work
- Using drills, saws, hand tools, measuring tools, or other jobsite equipment
- Moving and protecting heavy products inside customers' homes
- Customer-facing work, delivery work, or residential service
- Vocational, technical-school, shop-class, military, farm, or hands-on personal experience
- Fixing, building, assembling, or troubleshooting equipment or home projects
