Position Title: Dental Laboratory Technician
Location: McConnell AFB, KS 67221
Duration: Up to 5 years - initial 1-year contract, with annual extensions for up to 5 years, subject to performance and client requirements.
Pay rate: $24.93/hr.
Work Schedule: 7 am – 5 pm, Monday – Friday with a 1 hour lunch period. Contract employees will not exceed 8 hours per day unless directed by the Government Supervisor to complete patient treatment where lack of continuity would otherwise jeopardize patient health.

Position Summary
The Dental Laboratory Technician provides comprehensive dental laboratory support services within a Military Treatment Facility (MTF) at McConnell Air Force Base. The technician will fabricate, repair, and maintain a wide range of dental prosthetics and appliances while supporting clinical operations, logistics management, inventory control, and quality assurance activities. The position requires technical expertise in dental laboratory procedures, strict adherence to military healthcare standards, and the ability to work collaboratively with dental providers and external laboratory partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Dental Laboratory Operations
- Pour, cast, trim, mount, articulate, and duplicate dental impressions and casts.
- Fabricate dental appliances including:
- Custom impression trays
- Bleaching trays
- Athletic mouth guards
- Orthodontic retainers
- Surgical stents and guides
- Fixed and removable prosthodontic templates
- Assist in the fabrication and repair of crowns, bridges, dentures, orthodontic appliances, and other dental prostheses.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of the dental laboratory and plaster bench areas.
- Ensure all laboratory work meets quality standards and prescribed treatment requirements.
Logistics & Inventory Management
- Coordinate shipping, receiving, and tracking of specialized dental laboratory cases.
- Maintain real-time status updates of laboratory cases sent to and received from Air Force Central Dental Laboratory and external vendors.
- Conduct inventories of precious metals, laboratory materials, and supplies.
- Assist in process improvement initiatives and readiness activities.
- Collaborate with dental providers, clinic staff, and external laboratory personnel.
Documentation & Systems Support
- Utilize Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and other clinical software applications.
- Maintain accurate case records and laboratory documentation.
- Use Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access for reporting and administrative functions.
- Complete all required timekeeping and documentation in accordance with DHA and Air Force policies.
Required Qualifications
Education
Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
- Associate Degree or Professional Certificate from an accredited Dental Laboratory Technology Program; OR
- Graduate Certificate from the Medical Education and Training Campus (METC) Dental Laboratory Training Program; OR
- High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of two (2) years of documented active-duty military dental laboratory technician experience.
Professional Experience
- Minimum two (2) years of hands-on dental laboratory experience within the last three (3) years.
- Experience fabricating dental prosthetics, crowns, bridges, dentures, retainers, and orthodontic appliances.
- Experience working in a dental laboratory environment with dental impressions, models, and restorative appliances.
Certifications
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting military or government healthcare facilities.
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM dental technology and digital dental workflows.
- Experience with removable and fixed prosthodontics.
- Familiarity with military medical documentation and compliance standards.
