Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The Director of Psychology is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and oversight for all psychology services within the behavioral health hospital. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based psychological care, including assessment, psychological testing, individual and group psychotherapy, behavioral interventions, and consultation services. The Director of Psychology oversees licensed psychologists, psychology trainees and collaborates closely with psychiatry, nursing, therapy, social work, and executive leadership to ensure exceptional patient outcomes and regulatory compliance.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Clinical Leadership

Direct and oversee all psychological services across the hospital.

Ensure delivery of evidence-based psychological assessment and treatment.

Establish clinical practice standards and treatment protocols.

Provide consultation to psychiatrists, physicians, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams.

Review complex patient cases and provide clinical guidance.
-
Participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning.
-
Maintain appropriate patient caseload as needed.
Department Leadership
-
Recruit, hire, onboard, mentor, supervise, and evaluate psychologists.

Develop departmental goals aligned with organizational strategy.
-
Monitor productivity, staffing, scheduling, and resource utilization.
-
Foster collaboration among psychology, psychiatry, nursing, therapy, and social work.
-
Promote a culture of excellence, accountability, professionalism, and patient-centered care.
Quality and Compliance
-
Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, state licensing regulations, and accreditation standards.

Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
-
Monitor key departmental quality indicators and patient outcomes.
-
Lead performance improvement projects related to behavioral health services.

Develop and maintain departmental policies and procedures.
-
Oversee psychological evaluations and diagnostic testing.
-
Ensure appropriate utilization of cognitive, personality, neuropsychological, and forensic assessments (as applicable).

Maintain quality standards for documentation and interpretation of psychological testing.

Ensure timely communication of assessment findings to treatment teams.

Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to ensuring the agency is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and/or manmade disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and/or acts of terrorism. Assists other employees in the work unit in accomplishing assignments as necessary.
Qualifications
Special Qualifications/Education
-
Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology from an accredited institution.
-
Current unrestricted licensure as a Psychologist in the State of Kansas, or eligible for licensure prior to employment.
-
Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based psychological assessment, testing, and treatment modalities.
-
Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
-
Knowledge of Joint Commission, CMS, and state behavioral health regulations preferred.
-
Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and Microsoft Office applications.
Minimum Requirements
-
Minimum of two (2) years of progressive leadership or supervisory experience in a behavioral health setting.
-
Experience conducting psychological evaluations, diagnostic testing, and psychotherapy.
-
Demonstrated ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Requirements
-
Five (5) or more years of leadership experience in an inpatient psychiatric hospital.
-
Experience opening or expanding behavioral health programs or hospitals.
-
Experience with psychological testing programs and quality improvement initiatives.
-
Experience with Joint Commission surveys, CMS Conditions of Participation, and state licensing surveys.
-
Experience supervising psychology interns, postdoctoral fellows, or practicum students.
-
Training or certification in trauma-informed care, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), or other evidence-based treatment models.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:

Must be able to pass a background check prior to employment.
