Are you a dedicated social work professional passionate about protecting children and supporting families during their most critical moments? The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) is seeking qualified professionals to join the elite Exploited Missing Children Unit (EMCU). This specialized role focuses on conducting investigations efforts across the Wichita Region in collaboration with law enforcement and multidisciplinary partners.
As part of EMCU, you will work closely with detectives and professionals from child advocacy centers, local law enforcement, the District Attorney’s Office, forensic medical and nursing staff, and other critical stakeholders to conduct thorough and trauma-informed investigations. You will also play a key role in providing testimony in court, engaging in ongoing training, and improving interviewing skills through peer review processes.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct forensic assessments and investigations of sexual abuse (SEA) and severe physical abuse (PHA) cases, as well as other cases requiring investigation through the Kansas Protection and Report Center.
Participate in Child First, a weeklong forensic interviewing training, prior to handling SEA cases.
Attend SANESART, a daylong training overview of anatomy and forensic medical examination procedures.
Collaborate with detectives from EMCU and other law enforcement agencies to jointly investigate cases.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary partners including the District Attorney’s Office, Child Advocacy Centers (CAC), forensic nurses, and child abuse expert physicians.
Provide testimony in criminal court proceedings, including preliminary hearings and trials when necessary.
Attend weekly Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings and rotate attendance as assigned.
Participate in monthly peer review to refine and improve forensic interviewing skills.
Generate and provide accurate case statistics and documentation to CAC and other stakeholders. Minimum Qualifications

Licensed Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB) professional as determined relevant by the agency. Must have a license at the time of hire. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited program or that meets the requirements of K.A.R. 102-2-6
OR
Master’s degree in Social Work from an CSWE accredited program or that meets the requirements of K.A.R. 102-2-6
AND
Valid, unencumbered Kansas Social Work license through the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board
Valid Driver’s License maintained throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications: 2 Years of Experience as a Child Protection Specialist.
Experience in Child and Family Services or related protective services work.
Demonstrated knowledge of forensic interview practices and child abuse dynamics. Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
Security Clearance: A background check (KBI - criminal background, welfare fraud, driver's license and Child/Adult Abuse and Neglect Central Registry) is required for all positions with the Department for Children and Families (DCF) as a condition of employment, which may include fingerprinting and FBI check. Security clearance must be obtained prior to employment with DCF. Must maintain security clearance throughout employment.
Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate: A valid Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate is a condition of employment for all employees of the State of Kansas. Applicants (including non-residents) who receive a formal job offer for a State job, are required to obtain a valid Tax Clearance within ten (10) days of the job offer. A Tax Clearance can be obtained through the Kansas Department of Revenue who reviews individual accounts for compliance with Kansas Tax Law.
