Sr. Compensation & Performance Management Consultant

The Opportunity
We are a well-established, founder-led compensation and performance management consulting firm serving community banks and credit unions nationally. We are profitable, growing, and known in the financial institution HR space for high-touch, executive-level advisory work, not transactional vendor relationships. This is a search to identify a successor for a senior consultant who is a top producer and is exiting the role, with a strong preference to have the incoming consultant ramped well ahead of that transition.

The Role — Why It's Different
This is a hybrid advisory + business development role, roughly split between technical delivery and new client development. It is not a typical in-house comp analyst job, and it is not a typical sales job; candidates who can hold both halves credibly are rare, which is exactly why this search exists.

● Deliver executive-level compensation, performance management, and CEO/board compensation engagements directly with bank and credit union C-suites — salary range recommendations, job classification, market corrections, labor budget guidance.

● Build new client relationships through a consultative, education-led approach: webinars, conference presentations to groups of 15–200, and warm outreach, not cold, transactional selling. Prospects are typically HR/comp leaders who already sense they have a gap; the approach is advisory, not persuasive.

● Run ongoing salary benchmarking and equity reviews for an existing client book (~40/month) — the relationship continues well past the initial project.

● Maintain CRM discipline (HubSpot) and support clients through job grading, compensation discussions, and budgeting questions.

● Clients become long-term relationships, not one-off projects. Our model is built on retention and trust, not repeat selling.

Ideal Candidate Profile
● 5+ years of relevant experience, ideally including time in an HR/compensation leadership role inside a bank, credit union, or similar regulated financial institution. That lived experience is what gives instant credibility with the HR VP/CHRO audience this role serves.

● Comfortable being measured on new business results; prior B2B sales, business development, or quota-adjacent experience is a strong plus, but we will train the technical comp methodology if needed.

● Graduate-level education strongly preferred (the role regularly advises CEOs/CFOs/Boards on significant compensation decisions, as we want gravitas to match).

● Genuine comfort presenting to groups (15–200) and holding the room with C-suite executives.

● Sees “selling” as consulting, not pitching, candidates who frame this as a sales job tend not to be a fit; candidates who frame it as advisory work with a business development component tend to thrive.

● Able to be in-office 4 days/week (Wichita, KS) for the first two years, with light travel (roughly 20–25%) to client sites — travel intensity is partly shaped by how the consultant frames remote vs. onsite delivery to clients.

● Given the seniority and trust placed in this role, we are prioritizing candidates with a meaningful career ahead of them. Exceptional candidates with somewhat less runway will still be considered.

Process & Timeline
● Initial screen with our team → CEO interview → panel interview with current senior consultants (peer-level, designed to pressure-test fit with the realities of the travel and client-relationship side of the job) → final wrap-up.

● Timeline is active and moving with urgency, given the planned transition. We would like a hire identified and onboarding within the coming months, not a multi-quarter search.

Compensation & Benefits
Competitive base salary plus an uncapped commission structure on new business, with a full benefits package (medical, retirement, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, PTO from day one). Specific figures are being shared selectively with qualified candidates, and we're happy to walk through the structure directly once there's mutual interest.
