Role Summary and Strategic Impact
F.G. Haggerty is seeking an experienced Night Shift Machinist to join our Mississippi team. This position is classified as a Journeyman Fitter and is responsible for operating machining equipment, fabricating and modifying metal components, and supporting shop production with precision and efficiency. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, safety-minded, and takes pride in producing high-quality work while working independently during the evening shift.
Core Responsibilities
I. Machining & Fabrication

Operate manual and/or CNC machining equipment safely and efficiently.
- Set up machines, tooling, fixtures, and materials for production.
- Machine, drill, bore, grind, mill, and shape metal components to required specifications.
- Perform precision fitting, fabrication, and modification of metal components.
Repair or rework existing parts and equipment as needed.

II. Quality & Production

Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
- Measure materials and finished products using precision measuring tools.
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards and required tolerances.

Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments to maintain production.
- Work with supervisors to meet production schedules and deadlines.
III. Equipment & Shop Maintenance

Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines and shop equipment.
- Safely handle raw materials, finished products, and shop tools.
- Report equipment malfunctions or material shortages to supervision.
- Assist with general shop fabrication and production tasks as needed.
IV. Safety & Professionalism

Follow all OSHA, company, and shop safety policies and procedures.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
- Maintain regular attendance and arrive prepared for each scheduled shift.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support shop operations.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
Experience: Journeyman-level experience as a machinist, fitter, or related skilled trade is required. Previous experience in an industrial, commercial, or fabrication shop environment is preferred. Candidates should have a proven ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
Technical Proficiency: Proficient in operating manual machining equipment, with CNC machining experience considered a plus. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications. Skilled in using precision measuring instruments, hand tools, and fabrication equipment while maintaining tight tolerances and quality workmanship.
Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of machining processes, metal fabrication techniques, equipment maintenance, and shop safety practices. Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe work procedures in an industrial environment is required. Ability to identify and resolve machining or production issues efficiently.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical school, trade school, or machining certifications are preferred but not required.
