Full Job Description

Family Law Legal Assistant / Legal Secretary – Wichita, KS

Morris Laing is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Family Law Legal Assistant/Legal Secretary to support attorneys in our Family Law practice group. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, and committed to providing exceptional client service with professionalism and discretion.

This full-time position is based in the Firm’s Wichita office. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

Communicate professionally with clients in person, by telephone, and via email
Draft, proofread, revise, and prepare legal correspondence, pleadings, motions, discovery, and other family law documents
Prepare documents for filing with Kansas state courts using electronic filing systems
Maintain attorney calendars, including scheduling hearings, mediations, client meetings, and deadlines
Manage paper and electronic client files and maintain accurate case records
Assist attorneys with trial and hearing preparation, including preparing electronic and paper exhibit notebooks
Track deadlines and ensure timely filing of legal documents and responses
Conduct basic legal and factual research as requested
Process incoming and outgoing mail, emails, and court notices
Answer and direct incoming calls, take client messages, and provide timely follow-up
Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff to support efficient case management
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive client and firm information at all times

Qualifications

Knowledge of Kansas court procedures and electronic filing systems preferred
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Word Perfect, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
Excellent written, proofreading, and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational and time management abilities with attention to detail
Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Typing proficiency with high degree of accuracy preferred
