Full Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Administrator, performs diagnostic radiologic imaging procedures within the scope of demonstrated competency under the direction of a qualified physician while coordinating materials management and radiation safety functions for the ambulatory surgery center. This position is responsible for producing high-quality diagnostic images, maintaining regulatory compliance, ensuring the availability of surgical supplies and imaging equipment, supporting cost-effective operations, and promoting a safe and efficient clinical environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical & Radiology Services

Perform diagnostic radiologic imaging procedures in accordance with physician orders, organizational policies, and accepted professional standards.
Position patients appropriately to obtain optimal diagnostic images while ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Operate radiographic, fluoroscopic, and other radiation-producing equipment safely and effectively.
Prepare imaging equipment, electronic radiology systems, procedure rooms, and patients for surgical and diagnostic procedures.
Demonstrate proficiency in imaging support for surgical procedures including, but not limited to, spine surgery, spine and hip injections, fracture repairs, hip arthroscopy, and other procedures performed in the operating room.
Select appropriate technical factors based on patient condition and anatomy while ensuring accurate patient identification and image labeling.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe imaging environment while adhering to infection prevention and sterile technique standards.
Complete imaging procedures efficiently while maintaining quality and productivity expectations.

Radiation Safety

Serve as Radiation Safety Officer (as designated).
Maintain personnel radiation dosimeter badge program.
Coordinate inspection, maintenance, and annual testing of lead protective equipment.
Coordinate required inspections, maintenance, and regulatory compliance for radiology equipment.
Provide staff education and in-service training regarding radiation safety policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with applicable radiation safety regulations and accreditation standards.
Recognize safety hazards and initiate appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
Maintain compliance with organizational policies, OSHA requirements, accreditation standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
Participate in Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities, committees, and special projects as assigned.

Materials Management & Purchasing

Coordinate purchasing, receiving, inventory control, and central supply functions to ensure uninterrupted clinical operations.
Maintain an accurate perpetual inventory system for surgical supplies, instruments, implants, equipment, linens, and other operational materials.
Ensure adequate inventory levels to support scheduled procedures while minimizing waste and unnecessary expenditures.
Arrange transfers of materials as needed to support surgical schedules.
Inspect incoming supplies for quality, expiration dates, defects, and compliance with organizational standards.
Maintain accurate inventory records and purchasing documentation.
Collaborate with vendors and internal departments to support quality patient care and efficient operations.

Financial & Operational Responsibilities

Assist with departmental budgeting, cost containment initiatives, fixed asset management, and capital equipment planning.
Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce supply costs while maintaining quality standards.
Work collaboratively with the Administrator to ensure accurate recording of purchases and inventory transactions.
Monitor supply utilization and partner with clinical staff to ensure accurate charge capture and inventory management.

Qualifications

Years of Experience: 1 year experience in general radiology preferred
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology
License, Certificate Or Registration: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Additional Information: RT Virginia State License, BLS Certification

Physical Demands

Frequently standing, walking, and sitting. Ability to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear. Ability to pull, lift, carry, and push greater than 150lbs repetitively. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
