Position Summary/Purpose
Financial Leadership and Strategy
· Serves as the primary financial advisor to the Executive Director, organizational leadership, Treasurer, Finance Committee and Board of Directors
· Evaluates the financial implications of organizational decisions, programs, contracts, staffing, capital investments and strategic initiatives
· Identifies significant financial risks and opportunities and recommends appropriate actions
Budgeting, Forecasting and Financial Planning
· Leads development of the annual operating and capital budgets in collaboration with department directors
· Establishes budget assumptions, timelines and departmental guidance and consolidates submissions into the organizational budget
· Develops financial forecasts, rolling cash flow projections, scenario analyses and long-range financial plans
· Monitors actual performance against budget and forecast and communicates significant variances
· Recommends corrective actions, cost-saving measures and revenue strategies to support organizational goals
· Develops financial projections for performances, programs, fundraising initiatives, capital projects, and other strategic priorities
Accounting and Financial Operations
· Oversees day-to-day accounting operations, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, reconciliations and financial close
· Ensures timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements
· Maintains oversight of fixed assets, depreciation, restricted net assets, revenue recognition and other accounting schedules
· Develops and maintains effective financial policies, procedures and internal controls
· Ensures accounting records and practices comply with generally accepted accounting principles and applicable nonprofit accounting standards
· Provides backup support for Finance Department functions as needed
Cash Flow, Treasury and Debt Management
· Manages organizational cash flow, liquidity and working capital
· Oversees banking relationships, cash transfers, authorized account access and organizational cash controls
· Manages lines of credit, loans, debt obligations, draws, repayments, renewals and related reporting requirements
· Recommends strategies for maintaining adequate liquidity, borrowing capacity and financial reserves
Financial Reporting and Analysis
· Prepares financial reports, dashboards, forecasts and key performance indicators for organizational leadership
· Analyzes earned revenue, contributed revenue, departmental results and event and program profitability
· Supports decisions related to programming, pricing, ticket fees, staffing, facility use and resource allocation
· Presents financial information clearly to both financial and nonfinancial audiences
Board and Committee Support
· Serves as the primary staff liaison to the Finance Committee
· Supports the Treasurer in carrying out the Treasurer’s responsibilities
· Prepares financial reports and presentations for the Finance Committee, Executive Committee and Board of Directors
· Presents financial results, forecasts, risks and recommendations at committee and Board meetings
Audit, Tax, and Regulatory Compliance
· Coordinates the annual independent financial statement audit and serves as the primary contact for external auditors
· Coordinates preparation and filing of Form 990 and other required tax, governmental and regulatory reports
· Partners with the Development Department to prepare grant budgets and financial reports
· Oversees financial administration and compliance for government, foundation, and other restricted funding
· Monitors grant expenditures, matching requirements, allowable costs and reporting deadlines
· Coordinates with external accounting, tax, legal, banking, insurance and other professional advisors as needed
Performances, Contracts and Capital Projects
· Oversees financial reporting and settlements with artist representatives, co-promoters, presenting partners, rental clients and other third parties
· Reviews contracts and agreements for financial terms, obligations and risks
· Evaluates the financial performance of performances, productions, programs and partnerships
· Provides financial oversight for capital projects, including budgets, funding plans, expenditures, grant compliance and financial reporting
Systems, Payroll and Risk Management
· Oversees the integrity and effective use of accounting and financial reporting systems
· Collaborates with other departments to improve financial processes, reporting, data quality and system integration
· Works closely with the Human Resources Director to provide financial oversight of payroll, employee benefits, compensation and staffing costs
· Coordinates the annual review and renewal of organizational insurance coverage and supports broader risk-management efforts
Department Leadership and Collaboration
· Supervises, develop and evaluates Finance Department employees and contractors
· Establishes clear responsibilities, priorities, deadlines and performance expectations
· Ensures appropriate segregation of duties and backup coverage
· Provides financial guidance and support to department directors and managers
· Participates as a member of the organizational leadership team
· Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive Director
The Director of Finance serves as The Grand’s senior financial leader and trusted business partner to the Executive Director, department directors, Treasurer, Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring the ability to think strategically while remaining actively engaged in the organization’s day-to-day financial operations. The Director is responsible for financial strategy, accounting operations, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, financial reporting, grant compliance, risk management and financial systems.
The Director of Finance supports informed decision-making, maintains strong financial controls and promotes the long-term financial sustainability of the organization. The Director supervises the Finance Department and collaborates closely with Human Resources and all other departments throughout The Grand.
Key Responsibilities/Job Duties
- Review and edit show contracts for information relating to ticketing, marketing, audience experiences. Respond to and communicate with agents requesting ticket reports, media plans, etc.
- Create and implement fully integrated marketing plans designed to sell season tickets and individual shows. Provide reporting on campaign ROI and analytics for all efforts.
- Plan, negotiate and build out media buys for various ad platforms and oversee the day-to-day execution of media.
- Plan and implement direct mail campaigns including the design and printing process, list acquisitions, and coordination with mail house.
- Plan and implement digital marketing program and social media campaigns to engage target audiences.
- Monitor website content, digital communications, and print materials.
- Coordinate outside promotional opportunities and manage street teams to reach a variety of target audiences

Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
· A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience
· Demonstrated experience leading budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and accounting operations
· Experience supervising finance or accounting employees
· Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
· Experience preparing financial statements and managing monthly and annual close processes
· Experience coordinating an independent financial statement audit
· Strong financial analysis, forecasting and problem-solving skills
· Demonstrated ability to communicate financial information clearly to organizational leaders, department managers, committees and Board members
· Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
· High level of integrity, judgment, discretion, accountability and attention to detail
· Proficiency with accounting systems, Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
· Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications
· Certified Public Accountant designation or advanced degree
· Experience in a nonprofit, performing arts, entertainment, cultural or similarly complex organization
· Experience with nonprofit accounting, restricted funding, grant compliance and federal awards
· Experience supporting a Finance Committee, Treasurer or Board of Directors
· Experience with cash flow management, debt, lines of credit and capital projects
· Experience with artist settlements, ticketing, co-promotions, or performance-based financial arrangements
Experience with Sage 100, Tessitura or comparable systems
Reports To: Executive Director
Schedule: Primarily Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities based on organizational needs
Working Conditions: The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate but can be loud during performances. The passage of employees through the work area is average and normal.
