We are seeking an Energy Markets & Procurement Analyst to join our energy management and procurement practice. Mondre Energy is an energy consulting firm that helps commercial, institutional, and public-sector clients manage their energy cost and consumption through market tracking, bill reconciliation and auditing, tariff modeling, analysis and competitive supply procurement across deregulated energy markets, including PJM, MISO, NYISO, and ERCOT.
In this role, you will transform energy commodity market data and client usage information into actionable strategy. You will build client usage profiles, monitor commodity futures and price trends, and lead competitive supplier procurements in deregulated markets to hedge clients against price volatility and secure favorable supply terms. A strong grasp of energy market dynamics is central to the role: you will draw on an understanding of the wholesale market forces that drive pricing (Day-Ahead vs. Real-Time, capacity, and supply contracts) to guide retail procurement decisions and deliver measurable cost savings.
This is a client-facing role with full ownership of your projects. You will manage your client portfolio, set priorities, and present findings and recommendations to senior management, clients and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Market Tracking & Analysis: Evaluate energy commodity markets, futures, and price trends across electricity and natural gas on a daily basis in support of strategic planning and procurement for clients.
- Client Usage Profiling: Collect, validate, and analyze client power usage profiles to build detailed usage and load profiles, determine capacity and transmission costs, and inform procurement strategy and budget development.
- Procurement & Hedging: Lead competitive supplier procurements to source electricity and natural gas supply and hedge clients against market volatility; provide analysis to support procurement decisions and evaluate supplier pricing and contract terms.
- Bill Reconciliation & Auditing: Audit supplier and utility invoices for accuracy across rates, usage, and charges; identify billing errors, discrepancies, and cost-saving opportunities, and support resolution with utilities and suppliers.
- Tariff Modeling & Analysis: Research and interpret utility tariff rates, evaluate the feasibility of switching tariffs, and maintain tariff and rate libraries
- Database & Tracking Tools: Maintain utility account records and Mondre Energy's database tracking tools, including account numbers, service locations, suppliers, contract expiration dates, and usage history.
- Reporting & Client Insights: Prepare standard and ad hoc reports, dashboards, and clear client-facing summaries; develop and maintain energy budgets for large commercial and industrial clients based on projected energy prices, and present analytical findings in a structured format.
- Budget Development & Tracking: Develop and update budget tracking tools to monitor market performance against fiscal-year expectations, flag deviations from forecast, and support clients in planning and managing their energy spend.
- Variance & Trend Analysis: Perform cost tracking, variance analysis, and historical trend analysis across sites and billing periods to identify anomalies and savings opportunities.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate with utilities, suppliers, and clients to resolve billing and account issues, verify rate changes and supplier enrollments, and confirm implementation of contract terms.
- Special Projects: Support regulatory, rate-case analysis, impact analysis and process improvement initiatives as required.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience working with utility data, energy procurement, financial analysis, operations analytics, or other data-intensive business environments, with enough industry knowledge to work independently and own client relationships; experience with utility bill auditing, reconciliation, or invoice analysis is a strong plus.
- Energy Market Knowledge: Familiarity with how competitive retail energy markets work in deregulated regions (e.g., PJM, MISO, NYISO, ERCOT), and an understanding of the wholesale market dynamics that drive pricing, including Day-Ahead vs. Real-Time, capacity, and supply contracts. Knowledge of utility tariffs, rate structures, and supplier contract administration is a plus.
- Analytical Ability: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Organization: Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple clients, projects, and deadlines simultaneously and independently.
- Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to present findings clearly to clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Procurement Experience: Experience running competitive procurements with energy suppliers.

- Microsoft Office: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, Power Query, dynamic array formulas, and large dataset analysis. Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, and Power BI for analysis and reporting.
- Scripting: Scripting knowledge in Python, R or SQL for handling large datasets and automating repetitive data tasks.
- Reporting & Dashboards: Experience building automated reports and dashboards in Power BI or Tableau.
