The PE 2 (FLS) is responsible for providing first-line troubleshooting support to ensure uninterrupted production output. This role uses hands-on troubleshooting with structured problem-solving methodologies to address complex technical challenges, escalates issues when necessary, and drives continuous improvement through documentation, analysis, and collaboration. The PE 2 also supports tooling and product SPC (Statistical Process Control), manages disturbance notifications, and works closely with quality teams to maintain and improve material review processes, ensuring optimal product flow and minimal disruptions. The PE 2 is typically responsible for one work center.
First-Line Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving
Use structured problem-solving techniques (e.g., Fishbone Diagrams, 4C, 5 Whys) to analyze and resolve complex issues with support from technical leads and guidance from team/group leads.
Escalation Management & Technical Documentation
Create ETPs (Engineering Test Plans), task lists, and DOs (Disturbance Orders) related to escalation management, tooling maintenance, and troubleshooting with minimal support.
Disturbance Notification Analysis, Material Notifications & Process Improvement
Factory Engineering Representation & Cross-Team Collaboration
Bachelors or Masters of Science degree in technical domain (e.g. mechanical/electrical/optical/chemical/industrial engineering, mechatronics, physics, or related field) with 2+ years (BS) or (MS) with relevant internship experience in in a technical environment such as quality, manufacturing engineering, or related fields depending on internship experience.
Preferred Skills & Technical Competencies:
Demonstrates strong time management skills in previous roles.
Demonstrates strong ownership towards resolving technical issues in the workcenter.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Familiarity with quality processes such as DRB/MRB and E-Scraps management.
Troubleshoot optical surface defects (scratches / sleeks / digs) in accordance with MIL-PRF-13830B standards, and provide clear GO/NO-GO guidance, including any necessary recovery actions.
Develop OCAPs (Out of Control Action Plans) in response to novel troubleshooting actions.
Support vacuum chamber calibration activities as needed.
Run image processing software and scripts to extract nm scale flatness interferometric data.
Working knowledge with lasers and various electro-optical devices.
Read, interpret and provide decision guidance (GO/NO-GO) on flatness interferometric data, including any recovery actions.
Working experience with data processing / manual masking of the interferometer tool.
Hands-on experience cleaning critical optical surfaces.
Ability to safely work with and handle chemicals for product cleaning when needed (DI water, Acetone, Isopropyl, Chrome Etchant, KOH).
Matlab script troubleshooting is a plus.
Ability to stone/wick chipped glass surfaces is a plus.
Experience with 4D 4Sight and Zygo Mx software is a plus.
Working knowledge and operation of white light interferometer tools is a plus.
Working knowledge of NX, Teamcenter and SAP is a plus.
Working knowledge in image/signal/data processing algorithms/statistics and software development is a plus.
