About Wright Electric
Wright Electric builds power systems behind the future of aerospace and defense — from 30 kW expeditionary generators to multi-megawatt airborne propulsion. Our work spans electric motors, next-generation batteries, power electronics, and complete power systems like DenseGen and Dynamo, all engineered for a step-change in power and energy density. Since 2016, we've earned the trust of some of the most demanding customers in the world, including AFSOC, the USMC, PACAF, USTRANSCOM, NASA, ARPA-E, the FAA, and U.S. Air Force programs. It's genuinely cutting-edge work.
We also move fast. Wright is an all-hands, high-ownership environment where the pace is quick and the problems are hard. The people who thrive here are the ones who dig in and drive their work to the finish. At the same time, we know sustained great work depends on rest: we respect our team's personal time and protect the boundaries that keep people sharp, healthy, and here for the long haul.
The Role
Wright Electric is looking for a hands-on Financial Operations Manager to own the day-to-day financial operations of the business. Wright works with an outsourced accounting firm that handles its formal books, close, and tax filings — this role is the internal counterpart that runs the money movement underneath: purchasing and payables, receivables and collections, corporate card administration, vendor management, and the financial compliance our government contracts require. You will be the connective tissue between our operations and our accounting firm, making sure transactions are accurate, well-documented, and delivered on time so the firm can do their job efficiently. This is a broad, high-ownership role for someone who likes to build clean processes and keep them running.
What You'll Do
Government Contract Financial Compliance
- Maintain financial records and processes that support DCAA and FAR requirements, including allowable-cost treatment (FAR Part 31) and adequate supporting documentation.
- Support job/project cost tracking, indirect rate structures, and timekeeping compliance for contract work.
- Assist with incurred cost submissions, provisional billing, and audit or contract-review requests, coordinating with the outsourced firm as needed.
Procurement & Accounts Payable
- Own the full purchase-to-pay cycle: purchase requests, approvals, purchase orders, invoice review, and payment runs.
- Review vendor invoices for accuracy and proper authorization; resolve discrepancies before payment.
- Onboard and maintain vendors — W-9s, payment details, terms, and 1099 tracking.
- Manage the AP inbox and serve as the point of contact for vendor questions and disputes.
Accounts Receivable & Collections
- Generate and send customer invoices accurately and on schedule.
- Track outstanding receivables, run structured follow-ups, and manage collections on overdue accounts.
- Apply incoming payments and reconcile against open invoices to keep AR clean and current.
Corporate Card & Expense Management
- Write, roll out, and monitor for compliance with the corporate credit card usage policy.
- Administer the card program — issuing cards, setting limits, and monitoring for policy exceptions.
- Chase missing receipts, review expense reports, and reconcile card statements each cycle.
Outsourced Firm Liaison & Oversight
- Package complete, accurate transaction data — invoices, receipts, statements, and context — for the firm ahead of each close.
- Serve as the firm's primary internal point of contact and answer their questions promptly.
- Review the firm's deliverables for accuracy, question anomalies, and help decide over time what stays outsourced versus comes in-house.
Vendor Sourcing & Contracts
- Source vendors, gather quotes, and negotiate pricing and payment terms.
- Manage vendor contracts and renewals; track key dates, obligations, and spend commitments.
- Maintain approved-vendor lists and ensure procurement meets any flow-down requirements on government work.
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in accounting operations, AP/AR, or finance operations.
- Direct experience owning AP and AR cycles end to end.
- Experience with government contract financial compliance (DCAA, FAR cost principles, timekeeping, and cost tracking).
- Comfort with accounting tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Bill.com, Gusto).
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through — you keep receipts, deadlines, and approvals from slipping.
- Clear communicator who can hold vendors and an outsourced firm accountable professionally.
Preferred
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or another government-contracting environment.
- Familiarity with indirect rate structures and incurred cost submissions.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Location: on-site preferred (Malta, New York, or Brooklyn, New York); hybrid-remote considered for well-qualified candidates.
