AKER by MAAX is seeking a dependable, quality-focused Trimmer Operator to support our bathware manufacturing operation in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Convert a cured, demolded AKER bathware unit into its specified finished geometry by safely removing flash and excess backing, cutting or drilling required openings, smoothing edges, and identifying defects before the unit advances to repair, cleaning, quality inspection, or packaging.
This opportunity may be a strong fit if you have experience in gelcoat spraying, industrial painting, spray finishing, fiberglass or composite manufacturing, autobody refinishing, marine manufacturing, or industrial coatings.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
- Occasional Saturday work based on production needs
- Onsite in Martinsburg, West Virginia
- No travel required
What You’ll Do
- Review the traveler, model, trim specification, fixture, cut lines, opening locations, and special quality alerts before starting work.
- Inspect the unit for correct identity, safe cure condition, visible damage, unstable backing, or other abnormalities before placing it in the trim fixture.
- Position and secure the unit using approved fixtures, clamps, supports, carts, lift assists, and team-handling methods without loading or scratching the finished surface.
- Verify guards, dust collection, hoses/cords, tool condition, bits/blades/wheels, emergency stops, and workstation readiness before use.
- Use authorized saws, routers, drills, grinders, sanders, or pneumatic tools to remove flash and excess composite along designated trim paths.
- Cut, route, or drill drain, plumbing, attachment, access, overflow, flange, or model-specific openings only to the current specification and template.
- Control tool angle, pressure, feed rate, depth, and sequence to prevent chipping, cracking, burn-through, gouges, oversize openings, or damage to the AcrylX surface.
- Deburr and smooth specified edges and openings to remove sharp fibers and meet fit, appearance, and handling requirements.
- Check dimensions, opening location, flange condition, edge smoothness, surface protection, and overall completeness using required gauges, templates, or visual standards.
- Identify and contain cracks, voids, thin backing, delamination, surface chips, distortion, missed features, or out-of-tolerance cuts; do not perform unauthorized repair.
- Record required inspection results, production counts, scrap, rework, downtime, and tool or fixture issues accurately.
- Change consumable tooling only within training and authorization, isolate defective equipment, and request maintenance support for repairs or adjustments outside operator scope.
- Keep dust collection operating, remove debris with approved methods, and maintain clear floors, fixtures, carts, and product-contact surfaces.
- Rotate among approved trim, drill, grind, inspection, and handling stations after qualification to support line balance.
What We’re Looking For
- Ability to follow standardized work instructions, safety requirements, production schedules, and quality specifications.
- Strong attention to surface finish, coating coverage, color, thickness, and visible defects.
- Ability to learn and consistently repeat controlled spray distance, angle, overlap, travel speed, and model-specific spray sequences.
- Basic math and measurement skills for material usage, ratios, timers, equipment settings, and thickness checks.
- Ability to read labels, safety data sheets, lot codes, production travelers, and quality standards.
- Dependable attendance and willingness to work the assigned schedule, occasional overtime, and schedule changes based on production needs.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a team-oriented, paced manufacturing environment.
- High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent manufacturing experience may be considered.
Preferred experience includes:

· Prior experience in spray finishing, gelcoat, fiberglass or composites, industrial paint or coatings, autobody, marine, or related manufacturing.
· Prior experience using thickness or coverage gauges, production travelers, scanners, lot or batch records, defect logs, or basic production-reporting systems.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Prolonged standing and frequent movement throughout the shift.
- Frequent gripping, trigger operation, reaching, bending, twisting, and repetitive upper-body movement.
- Work around large molds and at varying heights, including occasional kneeling, crouching, or use of approved work platforms.
- Safely lift or move up to 50 pounds, using required mechanical assistance or team lifting when necessary.
- Work in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment with extreme heat and humidity during summer and cold temperatures during winter.
- Potential exposure to coating vapors, aerosols, overspray residue, odors, cleaning materials, resin and fiberglass operations, noise, and changing temperatures.
- Ability to wear required protective equipment, which may include safety glasses, safety-toe footwear, gloves, protective clothing, hearing protection, and respiratory protection.
- Complete medical evaluation, fit testing, and respirator training when required by the plant’s hazard assessment.
