Full Job Description

Orlando Science Middle/High is a high-performing, public charter school serving students in grades 6-12 in Orange County, Orlando, Florida. Our mission is to provide students with a well-rounded education with special emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), and Reading while using research-based, innovative instructional and support methods in a stimulating environment.

Job Summary: Provide guidance, counseling, and support to students as they explore post-secondary education, vocational pathways, and career opportunities for the 2026-2027 academic year.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
Eligible or possess Florida Department of Education school counseling credentials (preferred).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and administration.
Experience providing college, career, or academic counseling services.
Experience using data to inform student guidance and intervention strategies.

Other Requirements

Create a supportive environment that helps students explore post-secondary and career options.
Possess effective conflict management, interpersonal, and human relations skills.
Assist students in discovering and developing talents and interests to reach their full potential.
Be flexible in supporting students at all developmental levels.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties

Provide individual and group counseling sessions for students on college and career planning, academic progress, and social-emotional development.
Guide students through college applications, scholarship opportunities, vocational programs, and career pathways.
Collaborate with teachers and staff to identify student needs and create individualized support plans.
Evaluate students’ academic and social growth and maintain appropriate records, including college application tracking and career readiness assessments.
Encourage students to set goals, explore options, and think critically about post-secondary opportunities.
Communicate with parents and staff regarding student progress, opportunities, and guidance recommendations.
Organize and facilitate workshops, career fairs, guest speaker events, and other programs for college and career readiness.
Maintain current knowledge of college admissions, vocational programs, and workforce trends.
Establish and maintain a positive and productive environment for student guidance and support.
Model nondiscriminatory and ethical practices in all activities.

Other Duties

Demonstrate mastery of the Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida.
Participate in student and parent engagement activities, including PVO events, student clubs, and after-school programming.
Create a welcoming environment through effective communication, visual displays, and interactive student support initiatives.
Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other administrator.
