Full Job Description

Position Summary:

Supervises all aspects of Facilities and Maintenance to support the Diocese of Springfield. This role assists in safe and efficient physical buildings on a 24/7 basis. Oversees major projects for remodeling, maintaining and improving the physical buildings and grounds. Coordinates use of parish facilities, furnishings and equipment and also ensures high levels of employee service and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

-Writing requests for proposals and AIA contracts as well as change orders for controlled and non-controlled construction projects all with legal review.

-Excellent understanding of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Building codes for commercial and residential facilities.

-Provide in-person and on-site guidance and code compliance for various projects at multiple job sites throughout Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin and Berkshire counties.

-Design development, project progress updates, contractor job site meetings, facility emergencies.

-Assist parishes with bidding process, oversee design professionals and qualified contractors vetting process, inspection compliance.

-Maintain physical and electronic records, contracts ad plans and specifications for construction projects including blue prints, equipment warranties and service manuals.

-Prepare budgets for each project following financial department procedures to obtain materials, labor and equipment as needed.

-Maintain professional committee presences throughout diocese to best assist in job functions.

-Supervision of Pastoral Center Maintenance, Groundskeeping, Snow Removal and Custodial staff.

-Very good interpersonal communication skills and relationship building with diocese staff, parish staff, contractors and inspectors.

-Mechanical aptitude necessary for day-to-day operations/functions related to job functions.

-Travel throughout diocese to job sites/properties as needed.

-Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, nonprofit management or business preferred.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in construction or project management preferably in a faith-based or nonprofit setting.
Familiarity with state reporting.
Knowledge of maintenance in the fields of carpentry, electrical work, cement work, plumbing, sanitation, mechanics, locksmithing, air conditioning, grounds maintenance, pest control and janitorial care strongly desired.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain relationships.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database systems.
Practicing Catholic in good standing preferred but not required.
Knowledge of Catholic Church structure and sensitivity to its traditions and teachings very helpful.
Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
Mission-driven with a deep sense of service and commitment to the Church’s mission.
Self-motivated and organized, with strong attention to detail.
Comfortable working both collaboratively and independently.

Physical Demands &Work Environment:

This position requires the employee to work in an environment consistent with an office function and visit properties/job sites.
