About Us

Julien's Bakery is a bakery and café in the center of Granby, Connecticut — the second chapter of a story that started on a farm down the road. We opened in March 2026 and serve food and baked goods made entirely from scratch, with menus that evolve with the seasons, local availability, and the needs of our community.

Our Farm Store on Barn Door Hills Road has built a loyal following over several years. The bakery gives us a larger kitchen, a full café, and the ability to deepen our savory program in ways the Farm Store never could. We're growing thoughtfully, with a team that takes the work seriously and takes care of each other.

The Role

We're looking for a Kitchen Manager to own the savory side of our kitchen — breakfast, lunch, grab-and-go, and prepared foods.

This is a leadership seat, not a step under anyone on the kitchen side. You'll run the savory kitchen as a peer to the lead on our bakery/bread program and the lead on front-of-house and bar — the three of you working shoulder to shoulder, reporting directly to the owners. The savory menu is a real, material part of the business, and this is the person we trust to own it.

You'd be stepping into a defined seat with two capable leads already in place — a prep lead who runs the prep team and a line lead who owns the line during service. You're not building a kitchen from a vacuum; you're leading one that already works, and making it run even better.

We're an operation that's actively building structure and sane hours. The goal here isn't to be run into the ground — it's to run a kitchen you're proud of, at a sustainable pace.

What You'll Own

The kitchen — running prep and the line through your two leads, owning that the day's production gets out on time and on spec
Costing — knowing what the food costs, tracking it, and keeping it in line
Budget — managing food spend against a target
Vendor relationships — sourcing, ordering, and managing the supplier side for the savory kitchen
Pars and ordering for the savory side
Scheduling — building the savory kitchen schedule as a real forecast of what the week needs, targeting 40 hours for the team

Who You'll Lead

A prep lead who runs the prep team
A line lead who owns the line during service
The prep and line cooks who sit under them

You'll lead, support, and develop this team while keeping daily production consistent and on standard.

Experience & Qualifications

Previous experience leading or managing a commercial kitchen is required — this is non-negotiable
Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment is required
Proven ability to run prep and a line through other people and keep production on time and on spec
A real handle on the numbers — food cost, budgets, pars, and ordering
Experience with scheduling, vendor management, and inventory
Strong understanding of cooking techniques, ingredients, and kitchen equipment
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and comfort with the operational and administrative side of running a kitchen
Comfortable owning a kitchen fully while collaborating as a peer with our bakery and front-of-house leads
