Expected salary range of $221,400 to $246,000, varies based on experience, along with comprehensive benefits package that includes bonus and 401(k).

Responsibilities:

Position Summary

The Director of Regulatory Compliance is responsible for overseeing compliance functions and programs related to the operation of generation facilities and participation in wholesale energy markets. This role crafts compliance programs and strategies to ensure the company’s generation assets and wholesale trading and other commercial business activities operate in full compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, permits, and internal standards. This role also leads internal reviews and prepares responses to requests for information and inquiries from federal and state regulators, Independent System Operators/Regional Transmission Organizations (ISOs/RTOs), internal and external market monitors, and other regulatory and quasi-regulatory entities. This role exercises judgment on regulatory and compliance matters and recommends strategies and business practices designed to achieve compliance and mitigate legal, regulatory, and reputational risk to the company.

Embedded within the Legal Department, this role works cross-functionally with Generation Operations, Commercial/Trading, Policy, Risk, Finance, and others across the enterprise.

The Director of Compliance leads and manages a team of regulatory compliance professionals responsible for compliance activities of substantial importance to the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Lead compliance oversight for energy trading and ISO/RTO operational compliance matters.
Oversee internal investigations and reviews of compliance matters involving energy trading and ISO/RTO market participation.
Prepare and support responses to external regulatory compliance inquiries and investigations, including inquiries and investigations involving ISO/RTO Independent Market Monitors, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and other federal and state regulatory agencies.
Prepare and maintain compliance metrics and reports.
Brief senior management and executive leadership on compliance activities and risks.
Oversee compliance activities and filings of compliance professionals on team.
Provide leadership and mentorship to compliance professionals on team.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, law, or another relevant field.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in compliance, legal, regulatory, commercial, or operational roles in the energy/electric generation field or another relevant sector.
Experience supporting compliance for electric generation facilities.
Experience supporting compliance with wholesale electric market (ISO/RTO) tariffs and rules.
Strong understanding of regulatory enforcement, audits, and compliance program design.
Proven ability to manage sensitive compliance matters with discretion and sound judgment.

Advanced degree in a relevant field.
Prior electricity market trading experience.
