Job Summary: Consistently performs venipunctures and capillary blood collections on patients of all ages. Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized work environment and appropriate utilization of lab supplies. Follows laboratory policies and procedures.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Understand the importance of patient identification and proper collection techniques for optimal samples.

Has thorough knowledge of specimen requirements.

Alters or adjusts methods and procedures for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient.

Performs quality control procedures and instrument checks.
-
Maintains accurate laboratory records on procedures performed for statistics and billing.

Meets current documentation standards and policies.
-
Interacts professionally with the Laboratory Director, physicians, medical staff, laboratory staff and patients.

Follows standard precautions at all times.

Maintains current knowledge of hospital policy, CMS, state and other regulatory requirements.

Completes duties in a time efficient manner, knows how to prioritize STAT orders, ASAP orders, scheduled orders and outpatients.

Seeks guidance and direction as necessary.

Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations
