FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE
The Advancement Lead Teacher will work with the AIG Director to provide oversight on the district’s implementation of the AIG and Advanced Learning programs by guiding and supporting sites and staff to ensure fidelity and grow students' access to more rigorous and advanced learning opportunities. The Lead Teacher communicates priorities related to the specific program area and develops strategies for continuous improvement. Builds a structure of support in specified areas through staff development and technical support to campuses. Ensures the implementation of AIG program components and promotes the district mission, vision, and goals of the comprehensive AIG Program. Collaborates with members of the Advanced Learning Department to ensure consistent processes, procedures, and communication is shared with relevant stakeholders.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports the WS/FCS Strategic Plan, the Framework for Teaching and Learning and district initiatives which support, nurture and challenge the whole child
Communicates priorities as they relate to Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), College & Career Promise (CCP), Governor's School, Pre-AP and develops strategies for continuous improvement.
Analyzes, interprets, and assists staff in using assessment data. Utilizes formal and informal data to target instruction and program needs (i.e. AP results data, EVAAS data).
Coordinates the Governor’s School application process.
Collaborates with the counseling department to assist counselors and schools in identifying students with potential and interest towards advanced learning and higher education goals; utilizes the AP Potential tool as a source for identification.
Observes content area teachers who have been trained in AVID and AP best practices and strategies to provide feedback to teachers and school leadership regarding implementation.
Collaborates with teachers to build capacity and efficacy in their instructional practices.
Organizes and facilitates enrichment and experiential activities during both the regular school year and summer school for advanced learners.
Collaborates with other district programs to align and expand co-curricular activities.
Creates and coordinates communications with parents via email, text, or any other digital tool via social media, etc., and quarterly newsletters.
Coordinates and monitors professional development and meetings for AVID, IB, and AP teachers, counselors, and school-based coordinators. Collaborates with NC Advanced Placement Partnerships to offer AP Institutes.
Meets with AP, IB, and AVID teachers as necessary to determine program needs.
Assists the Advanced Learning Director in developing and monitoring the AP and AVID budgets.
Coordinates AVID, IB, and AP publicity in the community and develops community partnerships.
Maintains the AVID, IB, and AP portions of the website.
Coordinates AP Summer Bridge, AVID Summer Bridge, and middle grades enrichment camp
Analyzes and interprets data provided on AP Central to share with stakeholders.
Serves on AIG Advisory Council.
Performs additional related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of curriculum development and implementation of AP, IB and AVID programs and effective instructional practices for advanced and gifted learners in secondary schools.
Basic knowledge of budgeting and maintaining fiscal responsibility.
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and independently with administrators, teachers, students, families and community members.
Ability to relate well to students and families from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Ability to utilize appropriate technology software (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Forms, Mail and Spreadsheets), learning management system (i.e. Canvas) equipment and devices.
Demonstrated ability to organize, be self-directed and flexible.
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Ability to interpret policy, procedures and data to drive decisions related to student performance and program implementation.
Demonstrated ability in presenting professional development using adult learning theory.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
Ability to understand how to use multiple sources of data to inform daily decisions to improve instructional practices and build the instructional capacity of others.
Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of existing AVID, IB, and AP programs and make recommendations for improvement.
Skill in providing consultative services to school staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field
Desirable: Masters’ Degree in education, expertise and leadership in curriculum, instruction, intervention, and acceleration with academically and intellectually gifted students.
Minimum: Experience teaching in a secondary school. 2 years of experience teaching AVID or AP courses. AIG licensure required.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
Valid NC teaching with AIG add-on licensure required
Pay Grade - Teacher Salary + 1% | Full-time | 10 months
