We are seeking a knowledgeable, dependable, and student-focused part-time Nail Technology Instructor to teach and mentor students enrolled in our manicuring program.
The ideal candidate will combine strong technical nail skills with professionalism, patience, organization, excellent communication, and a genuine commitment to student development. This position requires more than demonstrating nail services. The instructor will also maintain accurate student records, enforce sanitation and infection-control standards, evaluate student progress, manage the classroom and clinic environment, and help students prepare for North Carolina licensure examinations and successful careers in the beauty industry.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Nail Technology Instructor will provide classroom theory, technical demonstrations, guided practice, hands-on instruction, student evaluations, and clinic-floor supervision.
The instructor must follow Millennium Trade Academy’s approved curriculum, lesson plans, policies, procedures, and all applicable requirements established by the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners.
This position requires someone who can work independently, communicate effectively, stay organized, and perform successfully in a fast-paced educational environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction and Student Development
- Deliver engaging classroom theory and hands-on nail technology instruction.
- Follow the academy’s approved curriculum, instructional schedule, lesson plans, and course sequence.
- Prepare lesson materials, demonstrations, assignments, examinations, and practical evaluations.
- Demonstrate professional nail services, proper tool use, product application, infection-control procedures, client consultation, and service safety.
- Supervise students during demonstrations, guided practice, independent practice, practical evaluations, and services performed on clients.
- Prepare students for North Carolina written and practical licensing examinations.
- Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Provide remediation and additional instructional support to students who have difficulty mastering required skills.
- Encourage professional behavior, accountability, punctuality, attendance, confidence, and career readiness.
- Maintain appropriate classroom management and establish a respectful, inclusive, and productive learning environment.
Technical Areas of Instruction
Instruction may include:
- Manicures and pedicures
- Natural nail care
- Nail shaping, filing, buffing, and polishing
- Nail tips and extensions
- Acrylic and other artificial nail-enhancement systems
- Gel polish and gel-enhancement services
- Nail wraps, fills, repairs, maintenance, and safe removal
- Nail art and current industry techniques
- Client consultation and service documentation
- Nail and skin conditions within the legal scope of practice
- Product chemistry and safe product handling
- Infection control, sanitation, blood-exposure procedures, and client protection
- Professional ethics, customer service, retailing, salon operations, and career readiness
Compliance and Recordkeeping
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely student attendance, clock-hour, examination, performance, evaluation, and progress records.
- Grade theory assignments, examinations, practical services, and required student evaluations accurately and consistently.
- Submit instructional records and reports by established deadlines.
- Monitor students’ completion of curriculum requirements, practical services, assignments, and examinations.
- Enforce all infection-control, sanitation, client-protection, tool-safety, and safe-product-use requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and inspection-ready classroom and clinic environment.
- Report student attendance concerns, performance problems, safety incidents, policy violations, and other concerns promptly.
- Protect confidential student, employee, and school information.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, compliance reviews, student orientations, school events, and training sessions as assigned.
- Follow all academy policies and applicable North Carolina laws, rules, and Board requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Current North Carolina Manicurist Teacher license or North Carolina Cosmetology Teacher license in good standing.
- High school diploma or recognized high school equivalency.
- Strong knowledge of professional nail services, infection control, sanitation, safety, and client protection.
- Ability to demonstrate nail procedures and explain technical information clearly.
- Ability to teach both classroom theory and hands-on practical skills.
- Ability to supervise students closely in classroom and clinic environments.
- Ability to maintain complete, accurate, and timely student records.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and classroom-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Dependable, professional, punctual, and committed to the academy’s mission and vision.
- Ability to work effectively with students from different backgrounds, learning styles, and experience levels.
- Availability to work Tuesday through Friday and some Saturdays as scheduled.
- Ability to maintain all licenses, continuing-education obligations, and professional requirements applicable to the position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least one to two years of experience teaching nail technology, manicuring, or related classes.
- Recent professional experience providing nail services.
- Experience preparing students for written and practical licensing examinations.
- Familiarity with North Carolina cosmetic art school requirements and student-recordkeeping procedures.
- Experience using digital attendance, grading, student-management, or learning-management systems.
- Knowledge of current nail trends, tools, products, enhancement systems, and industry practices.
- Previous experience mentoring, training, supervising, or coaching students or entry-level professionals.
- Bilingual communication skills are a plus.
PHYSICAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS
The instructor must be able to:
- Sit or stand for extended instructional periods.
- Demonstrate nail services requiring close visual attention and fine motor skills.
- Bend, reach, and move safely throughout the classroom and clinic.
- Lift or move instructional materials and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds, with reasonable accommodation when applicable.
- Work around standard salon equipment, cosmetic products, disinfectants, nail dust, and product odors.
