Full Job Description

Peer Navigators will work in the Welcome Center, serving as the first point of contact for students and visitors. They are responsible for monitoring multiple communication channels, answering general questions within their training scope, and providing warm handoffs to other departments as needed. Peer Navigators will assist students with onboarding, registration, technology support, and navigating college resources. They will play a critical role in creating a welcoming environment, ensuring students feel supported from intake through their first semester and beyond.

Peer Navigators also gain valuable leadership and professional development skills by supporting peers, modeling success, and contributing to the mission and vision of Forsyth Tech in the community.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

Must be enrolled as a student of Forsyth Tech or be an Alumnus in good standing.
Must be a positive example of student success with above average academic progress/standing (2.5-4.0 GPA), or graduation status.
Must be willing to work minimum of 15 but no more than 29 hours per week. Flexibility with scheduling is ideal!
Must be able to multi-task, adapt quickly, and have strong organizational skills.
Must be Team focused with the ability to work independently as needed.
Ability to understand, communicate, and demonstrate appropriate professional behavior and boundaries in an academic office setting.
Ability to work with confidential information honestly, ethically, and respectfully.
Be punctual, reliable, and consistent
Ability to use the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel) as well as other technical tools effectively.
Be willing and enthusiastic about learning new skills and have a growth mindset!

Preferred Qualifications Essential Duties

Essential duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Monitor student intake in the Welcome Center.
Monitor onboarding inbox, team chats, Qless, and Element communications.
Answer general questions for walk-ins within training scope.
Triage student needs (application status, appointments, TechID support, Blackboard navigation, CEAs).
Assist students with setting up initial and follow-up appointments.
Provide warm handoffs to professional staff or other departments as appropriate.
Curate and distribute resource guides, including Welcome Folders.
Manage the internal calendar with key deadlines and events.
Distribute Student IDs.
Assist students with orienting to college resources, advising/registration tools, and technology.
Always display respect, emotional intelligence, and cultural awareness in interactions.
Provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty, and community members.
Assist with clerical tasks as needed (copies, mail, scanning, etc.).
