Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Health Nurse to join our educational community. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive health services to students, staff, ensuring a safe and healthy school environment. Your expertise in pediatric and adolescent health, combined with your ability to respond swiftly to medical emergencies, will help promote wellness and support academic success. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners while working within a collaborative healthcare team.

Duties

Conduct health assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and injury evaluations for students and staff.
Administer first aid, CPR, AED operation, and emergency medical interventions as needed during health incidents or injuries.
Manage medication administration, including injections, IV insertions, and medication documentation in compliance with health regulations and school policies.
Maintain accurate medical records using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and ensure confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Collaborate with parents, teachers, and healthcare providers to develop individualized health plans for students with chronic conditions or special needs.
Educate students on health topics such as hygiene, nutrition, immunizations, and disease prevention strategies.
Ensure the school complies with all relevant health regulations and policies related to infectious disease control and safety protocols.
Respond promptly to medical emergencies within the school setting, utilizing physiology knowledge and emergency response procedures for acute care situations.
Conduct routine screenings such as vision and hearing tests; monitor immunization records; support outbreak management efforts.
Participate in interprofessional collaboration with school staff to promote a healthy learning environment.

Qualifications

Valid State Board of Nursing license with current registration; prior experience in school clinics highly preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency in patient assessment, medical documentation, and clinical procedures such as venipuncture and injection administration.
Experience working in diverse healthcare settings including Level I Trauma Centers, emergency rooms, urgent care clinics, or hospital medicine environments is advantageous.
Knowledge of pediatric physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and emergency medical response protocols.
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for electronic health records management; ability to maintain patient confidentiality per HIPAA standards.
Strong communication skills for effective parent engagement and team collaboration across disciplines.
Ability to handle manual handling tasks safely while maintaining compliance with nursing policy standards.
Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), First Aid, CPR, AED operation, and Infectious Disease Care are required; PICU experience are a plus.
Commitment to ongoing professional development aligned with State Nursing Practice Acts and school health best practices.
