Blackburn's Interiors has sold and installed flooring in Polk County since 1962. We are family-owned, now in our third generation, with an 8,000 square foot showroom in Winter Haven. We handle flooring, cabinets, and countertops, and we treat every job like our name is on it. Because it is.
We are looking for a highly motivated, hard working person to measure the work, price it right, and see it through the install. Estimating is the heart of the job, commercial and residential both. Cabinets and countertops are part of it too, since we sell all three under one roof. Through all of it, you take care of the customer.
What you'd do
- Read commercial plans and specs, do the takeoffs, and build accurate flooring bids
- Visit homes across Polk County to measure and help customers choose the right flooring
- Turn measurements into clear, honest quotes customers can trust
- Help customers on the cabinet and countertop side too, since we do all three
- Order the right material and quantities, including the setting materials and adhesives each floor needs, and stay on top of lead times
- Unload delivery trucks and load out the installers, on a forklift when the job calls for it
- Schedule the installers and keep each job moving so it finishes on or before schedule.
- Walk the finished floor, check the work, and handle the punch list
- Keep customers in the loop from the first measure to the final walkthrough
Estimating is the core of the role, and a good bit of it is commercial bid work, so comfort reading plans and pricing a bid matters. Cabinets and countertops round it out. You are the one who makes sure it is measured right, ordered right, and finished right, and that the customer feels looked after the whole way.
What we're looking for
- You take care of people. You return the call, keep your word, and make the customer feel like their job is the only one that matters.
- You measure carefully and your math is solid.
- You can read a room, and ideally a set of plans. We will teach you the flooring side if you have the rest.
- You know flooring products, or you learn them fast: the specs, and the setting materials and adhesives each one needs.
- You are organized, you follow through, and you do what you say.
- You are comfortable talking to customers, builders, and installers, and you keep your word to all three.
- Honesty and integrity are of paramount importance.
Flooring experience is a plus, not a must. If you have estimated, measured, or run jobsites in construction, we want to talk. Experience with measuring software like MeasureSquare or RFMS helps, but we will train the right person.
What you'll need
- A valid Florida driver's license and a clean driving record. You will drive to homes and jobsites every week.
- A reliable vehicle of your own to reach homes and jobsites.
- To work full-time, Monday through Friday, plus Saturday mornings. Saturdays are part of the job, every week.
- To pass a background check. You will be going into customers' homes, and that trust matters.
- To be comfortable on a computer or tablet for quotes, email, and measuring apps.
- To handle the physical side of the work: lifting boxes of flooring, operating a forklift to load and unload (we can train and certify you if needed), stairs, kneeling, standing for stretches, and Florida heat. We make reasonable accommodations.
- To be 18 or older and authorized to work in the United States.
Nice to have
- Flooring or floor-covering experience (carpet, tile, hardwood, luxury vinyl, laminate)
- Commercial estimating or bid experience
- In-home sales experience
- Cabinet or countertop experience, and a kitchen design program like 2020 Design. We do all three under one roof, so it is a real plus.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish. Some customers speak Spanish, so it helps serve them well.
- A construction or trades background
Pay and schedule
- $25 to $35 per hour, depending on experience
- Full-time, in person at our Winter Haven showroom and out in the field
- Monday through Friday, plus Saturday mornings. Our showroom is open Saturdays from 9 to noon.
What we offer
- Paid time off
- A 401(k) with company match
- Profit sharing, because when the shop does well, you should too
- An employee discount on flooring, cabinets, and countertops
- Mileage and fuel reimbursement for the driving the job takes
Why Blackburn's
We have been family-owned since 1962. The person who measures the job is the person who sees it through. You will learn the trade from people who have done it for three generations, and you will have a real say in how the work gets done.
