The Bureau of Teaching and Learning is seeking applicants for a School Mental Health Consultant position. This position provides statewide leadership to support comprehensive school mental health systems through grant management, technical assistance, and collaboration with schools and statewide partners. The consultant plays a key role in advancing evidence-based practices that promote student and educator wellness\and positive school climates.

Position Summary

This position is critical to the work of the Student Services Section and provides statewide leadership, expertise, and project management to support comprehensive school mental health systems through state and federal grant programs and initiatives. The position is responsible for coordinating and supporting statewide mental health efforts through technical assistance and strategic partnerships. This role partners with local educational agencies (LEAs), Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESAs), state and community organizations, and institutions of higher education to strengthen school mental health systems, build local capacity, and improve student outcomes throughout Wisconsin.

Key responsibilities include:

Managing state and federal grant programs, including project planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
Establishing priority areas for ongoing training, coaching, and technical assistance to schools and educational partners in relation to mental health.
Collaborating with LEAs, CESAs, higher education, state agencies, and community organizations to strengthen comprehensive school mental health systems.
Developing resources and providing consultation to support evidence-based mental health, prevention, and wellness initiatives.
Serving as a DPI liaison and subject matter expert while supporting statewide partnerships and strategic initiatives.

Salary Information

This position is in classification Education Consultant. Depending on qualifications, the salary will be between $37.00 - $49.50 per hour (approximately $76,960 - $102,960 per year). For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan effective at time of hire. This position is in pay schedule 13, range 02. A one-year probationary period will be required.

Job Details

Remote Work: This position is eligible for up to 95% remote work for employees residing within the State of Wisconsin. Employees are expected to maintain secure, reliable high-speed internet while working remotely. In limited circumstances, remote work from a neighboring state may be approved. Employees should be prepared to report to a Wisconsin work location as business needs require, including on short notice. Remote work arrangements are subject to change based on operational needs.

Travel: This position may require occasional travel within Wisconsin to attend meetings, provide training and technical assistance, collaborate with partners, and participate in conferences or other business-related activities.

Headquarters: The position is headquartered at 201 W. Washington Ave. in Madison, WI, and employees are required to report there on their first day of employment. In addition, the employee may need to report to their headquarter location as operational needs require. Reimbursement for traveling to or from the employee’s headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.).

Pre-hire requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of hire. A tuberculosis screen will be required prior to start.

Legal authorization: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., without DPI sponsorship). The Department of Public Instruction does not sponsor visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

Qualifications

A minimally qualified applicant must all the below:

Experience working in or supporting school-based mental health services, programs, or systems through consultation, technical assistance, coordination, or implementation.
Experience supporting or leading systems change, continuous improvement, or implementation efforts related to school-based mental health or student support services.
Experience coordinating, consulting, or collaborating with internal and external partners (e.g., federal/state agencies, CESAs, local education agencies, higher education, or mental health organizations) related to school mental health.
Experience implementing evidence-based school mental health practices such as social and emotional learning, trauma-sensitive schools, restorative practices, bullying prevention, suicide prevention, or related prevention and wellness initiatives.

Please note that a college degree is not required for this position.

Well-qualified applicants will also have experience:

Education or experience with the Wisconsin MLSS framework, including integration of mental health, academic, behavioral, and student support practices.
Experience using data, research, or implementation measures to identify needs, monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes.
Experience developing, implementing, or monitoring grant funded projects, programs, or initiatives.
Experience applying equity and inclusion principles to school mental health programs, services, training or technical assistance.
Experience developing and delivering professional development or training related to school mental health, prevention, or student support services.
