Full Job Description

Job Title: Family Engagement Specialist - Head Start
Location: Portage, WI (In-Person)
Job Type: Full-Time, (40 hours/week), Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May include occasional evening or weekend hours to meet family needs and attend community events.
Salary: $52,500 - $57,964 per year (based on education and/or experience)

Renewal Unlimited, Inc is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Family Engagement Specialist to lead and coordinate parent involvement and family engagement services for our Head Start program. This critical position supports families of children from infancy through age five – as well as pregnant mothers – by building strong partnerships that promote family well-being and school readiness. Core Responsibilities:

Program Leadership & Oversight:

Provide overall leadership and oversight of Parent Involvement and Family Services across center-based and home-based programs.
Ensure effective implementation of comprehensive services aligned with the Head Start Program Performance Standards and other funding requirements.
Implement and regularly review policies and procedures in Parent Involvement and Family Services; recommend revisions based on program needs while ensuring regulatory compliance.
Connect families with community resources, including housing, food assistance, healthcare, childcare, employment, transportation, and educational services.
Provide advocacy and support to help families navigate social service systems.
In partnership with program leadership, establish program-wide benchmarks for enrollment, attendance, family services, and parent involvement, and monitor progress toward those goals.
Develops strategies and materials for agency-wide recruitment efforts to ensure full enrollment of Head Start Programs.
Make home visits to families to provide additional support as needed.

Program Planning, Implementation & Monitoring:

Collaborate with program leadership to align family engagement practices with the Head Start Parent, Family, and Community Engagement (PFCE) Framework.
Promote and model a family-centered, strengths-based approach that is culturally and linguistically responsive across all service areas.
Review comprehensive assessments to identify family strengths, needs, and goals.
Develop programming and support initiatives that enhance father/male engagement and authentic parent leadership.
Ensure coordinated systems exist for program-wide parent activities and support site-level monthly family engagement events.
Actively contribute to Program Goals, School Readiness Goals, and PFCE outcomes through integrated planning.
Provide oversight of the Head Start/Early Head Start Parent Committees, ensuring systems, procedures, and practices for elections, member selection, officer roles, meetings, voting, documentation, and governance responsibilities are compliant with the Head Start Act and Performance Standards; delegate day-to-day coordination to the appropriate site supervisors/staff while maintaining overall accountability.
Maintain, monitor and strengthen community partnerships and linkage agreements to expand access to resources and supports.
Develop, strengthen, and monitor systems within ChildPlus to ensure accuracy, compliance, and meaningful use of data.
Use data intentionally to inform decisions, allocate resources, identify trends, and address areas of risk or opportunity.
Participate in and support preparation of the annual PIR and all required federal and state reporting.
Contribute to the agency’s self-assessment process and continuous quality improvement planning.
Monitor the development of Individualized Family Partnership Agreements, development of family and child goals, and documentation of progress through the year. Provide support to staff to document work with families through the ChildPlus data base.

Professional Development & Leadership Capacity Building:

Foster reflective, relationship-based practices across all areas of family and community engagement.
Establish mutually respectful partnerships with families to enhance the quality of their lives and their communities.
Plan, coordinate, and lead professional development trainings in both small and large group formats, utilizing effective adult learning strategies to ensure participant engagement and comprehension.
Implement the research-based Conscious Discipline Parenting Curriculum via virtual and in-person trainings for families enrolled in the Head Start Program.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred
Minimum of 1 or 2 years of experience working with children, families, or vulnerable populations.
Knowledge of community resources and social service systems.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds.
Experience in case management, family support services, or community outreach.
Knowledge of trauma-informed care and family-centered practices.
