Full Job Description

The Lead Paralegal is a supervising paralegal responsible for maintaining an active caseload while training, coaching, and mentoring paralegals on the firm's personal injury workflows, procedures, and best practices.

The Lead Paralegal works closely with attorneys and firm leadership to manage workloads, ensure compliance with firm standards, drive operational efficiency, and support the continued growth and success of the legal teams. Incoming legal support staff assigned to support the Lead's caseload receive hands-on instruction and development through daily casework, guided training, and ongoing feedback.

The ideal candidate is an experienced personal injury paralegal with demonstrated leadership abilities and a passion for developing others through mentorship and training. They are a proactive and effective people leader who can balance case management responsibilities with team supervision, coaching, and performance development. They lead by example, provide constructive feedback, and create an environment where team members can grow professionally. Team Leadership and Management

Supervise, mentor, and support paralegals, legal assistants and legal support staff assigned based on region.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
Assist HR and leadership with recruitment, onboarding, and training of new team members as needed.
Address employee issues with Human Resources as needed.
Monitor productivity and identify opportunities for improved efficiency.
Collaborate with attorneys and department leaders to improve operational effectiveness.
Develop and implement best practices, workflows, and procedures for the legal department in accordance with leadership as needed.

Caseload Management & Staff Development

Maintain and manage an active personal injury caseload in accordance with firm standards and performance expectations.
Perform all core paralegal functions, including case management, client communication, medical record review, demand preparation, litigation support, and settlement coordination.
Work directly with assigned paralegals and legal support staff who assist with the Lead's caseload as part of their hands-on learning and development.
Delegate appropriate case tasks and provide real-time coaching, instruction, and feedback to support employee growth and skill development.
Utilize active case assignments as training opportunities to demonstrate best practices, effective case management, and quality client service.
Review work completed by assigned team members and provide guidance to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with firm standards.
Foster a collaborative team environment that encourages learning, accountability, and professional development.
Reinforce and train on the firm's culture, expectations, and standards through onboarding, coaching, and daily interactions.
Act as a positive and welcoming point of contact for new hires, helping them acclimate to the firm, build confidence in their roles, and successfully integrate with their teams.

Qualifications:

Associate's degree in paralegal studies, a paralegal certificate, or a bachelor’s degree in any field preferred
7+ years cumulative legal experience (personal injury experience preferred but not required)
Demonstrated success managing a substantial caseload including litigation files
Experience mentoring, training, coaching, leading, or onboarding paralegals and legal support staff
Ability to effectively prioritize and balance an active caseload with training and development responsibilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and supportive manner
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality work product
Proficiency in case management software and Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to build positive working relationships across all levels of the organization
Commitment to professionalism, client service, teamwork, and continuous improvement
Serves as a positive ambassador of the firm's culture and professional standards
