Overview

Job Description: Ophthalmic Scribe

Reports to: Doctor/Lead Technician/Tech Manager and Director of Operations

JOB SUMMARY: Ability to communicate in a courteous, effective manner with a “patient first” approach to care. Must be trustworthy with patient information. Responsible for providing accurate documentation and summarization of the ocular examination and recommendations while maintaining patient flow. Dependable with a desire to achieve excellence.

Skills required: Ability to listen to doctor-patient interactions and chart in real-time, fast multitasking and active listening are crucial skills. Typing speed and accuracy needed.

Personality traits should include: humble, emotionally intelligent, calm, detail-oriented, coachable, efficient, perceptive, clinically curious, and confident with quick cognitive reflexes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Observes the physician and anticipates what is clinically appropriate for patient care and documentation. NEVER diagnosing or interpreting independently. Accurately summarizes and documents what the physician verbalizes during an examination, including but not limited to: proper charting of the examination, documenting additions to the chief complaint, assessment and recommendations for treatment plan in electronic health record (EHR) systems during medical examinations.
Billing Awareness: Knows required components of examination for appropriate CPT coding to ensure all elements are accurately completed.
Billing Awareness: Understands Medicare and other common insurance requirements for quality reporting in order to help practice comply with payer requirements.
Facilitates communication between the physician and other staff members as helpful to minimize clinic flow disruptions.
Performs other tasks as required and requested by Dr/Lead Tech/Tech Manager/Director of Operations

Qualifications

Prior experience working in a medical office setting or as a Medical Scribe is highly preferred.
Proficiency with EMR/EHR applications for documentation and communication purposes.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, coding practices, and health information management standards.
Understanding of healthcare privacy laws, clinical confidentiality policies, and health regulation policies is required.
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals and patients.
Ability to handle sensitive health information with discretion while ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Demonstrated organizational skills for managing medical records efficiently within a fast-paced environment.

Pay: From $16.00 per hour
