The Student Services Section within the Bureau of Teaching and Learning is seeking applicants for a School Psychologist-Senior position. This is a Project position and has an end date of November 30, 2029. This is a part-time, year-round position (58%) that is designed to innovate and work across systems to improve outcomes for justice-involved youth. The incumbent will work in a one-of-a-kind, nationally recognized facility (Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center in Madison, WI) in partnership with a team of Department of Health Services professionals.

Position Summary

The School Psychologist – Senior provides a range of services and duties selected and adapted to the unique educational, psychological, emotional, mental health communication needs of justice-involved youth, under the general supervision of the Director of Student Services. These services/duties include conducting psychological, educational and vocational assessment and diagnosis, providing counseling, connecting with community resources, and consulting with staff and parent/caregiver consultation. This position will be located on the campus of the Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center in Madison, Wisconsin. This is a project position funded through a federal innovation grant entitled, “Transforming systems so that justice-involved youth can thrive: A multilevel system of reintegration supports.” The position will work as a member of the team responsible for implementing T3.

Salary Information

This position is in classification School Psychologist-Senior. Depending on qualifications, the salary will be between $30.00 - $43.66 per hour (approximately $36,192 - $52,671 per year, prorated for the .58 FTE). For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan effective at time of hire. This position is in pay schedule 12, range 63. A one-year probationary period will be required.

This position offers excellent benefits. The State of Wisconsin is a qualifying employer for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

Job Details

Project position: Project positions are eligible for benefits including health insurance, but the incumbent does not attain permanent civil service status. The funding for this project position ends November 30, 2029. Wisconsin residency is required for project positions.

Special notes: This position will work first-shift hours between Monday through Friday.

Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a School Psychologist (61 or 62) with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. To be eligible for this licensure, a candidate must meet all the requirements outlined by DPI, which includes holding a Master’s Degree in Psychology from an accredited university, college, or professional school.

Headquarters: The position is headquartered at Mendota Juvenile Treatment Facility (301 Troy Drive) in Madison, WI. Employees are required to report to 201 W. Washington Ave. in Madison, WI, on their first day of employment. Reimbursement for traveling to or from the employee’s headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.). This position requires in-person presence at the headquarters location.

Pre-hire requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of hire. A TB screen will be required prior to start.

Legal authorization: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., without DPI sponsorship). The Department of Public Instruction does not sponsor visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

A minimally qualified applicant must have:

Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a School Psychologist (61 or 62) with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Well-qualified applicants will also have experience:

Experience providing culturally responsive services to students from diverse racial, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Education or experience with psychological tests/interpretations and the validity of use for incarcerated persons.
Education or experience with behavior management/modification techniques.
