Full Job Description

Job Overview

Town Plot Auto Body & Towing, a multi-generational family business that has been in operation since 1968, is seeking a detail-oriented Auto Body Estimator to evaluate vehicle damage, create accurate repair estimates, and guide customers through the collision repair process. You will serve as the primary link between vehicle owners, insurance adjusters, and our repair technicians. Your goal is to ensure precise documentation, maximize shop efficiency, and maintain high customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

- Inspect vehicles: conduct thorough visual and physical inspections to identify all collision damage

- Write estimates: prepare line-by-line cost estimates for parts, labor , and paint using CCC ONE software

- Negotiate claims: review damage reports with insurance adjusters to secure full approval for required repairs and supplements

- Communicate with customers: explain repair processes, timelines, and costs clearly to vehicle owners

- Coordinate workflow: hand off detailed repair orders to auto body technicians and track vehicle progress

- Maintain records: document all photos, compliance forms, and invoices accurately within the shop management system

Qualifications & Skills

- Experience: minimum 5 years of experience writing estimates in a collision repair facility or comparable experience (e.g. insurance adjuster)

- Software proficiency: mastery of CCC ONE or similar industry estimating platform

- Technical knowledge: deep understanding of automotive construction, frame damage, and OEM repair procedures

- Legal knowledge: familiarity with Connecticut General Statute § 38a-354 regarding steering laws and consumer rights

- Licensing: must possess a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Physical Damage Appraiser License (or be capable of obtaining one immediately)

- Certifications: I-CAR Platinum or ASE Damage Analysis & Estimating certifications are highly favored

- Communication: strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive customer situations and insurance negotiations

- Detail-oriented: ability to spot hidden damage and accurately forecast necessary parts and labor

- Complete teardowns: coordinate with shop technicians during physical teardowns to identify hidden structural or mechanical damage early in the process

- Photo documentation: document the repair lifecycle by capturing and organizing clear digital photos of all damage and supplements in CCC ONE

Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and crouch for extended periods to inspect vehicles

- Ability to work in a loud shop environment

- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Schedule

This is a full-time position. Business hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. Additional hours are always available.
