About Woodside on the Move

Woodside on the Move (WOTM) is a grassroots community organization dedicated to making Woodside and surrounding Queens’ neighborhoods a better place to live, learn, and do business. Building on a 50-year track record of neighborhood revitalization and community development programs, our work includes one-on-one constituent casework, community organizing, after-school and summer camp, adult education, and public events. The Housing Case Manager position requires a highly motivated professional with exceptional organizational and strategic planning capabilities to enhance our operational efficiency.

Requirements:

● Associates or Bachelors degree in relevant field

● 1-2 years of relevant experience in social service, casework or client services

● Work experience of 5+ years can be substituted for education

● 3+ years of professional experience in case management and/ or counseling in affordable housing, housing development or real estate management can be substituted for education

● Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

● Knowledge regarding the following:

Rent Regulations

Rent History

Eviction Prevention

MCIs and IAIs

Housing Court

Enrollment in programs such as SCRIE, HEAP, DRIE

● Ability to write and record case notes to properly document client services

● Must be computer-literate and must have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and/ or Google Suite

Scope of position:

Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Housing Case Manager will be responsible for providing direct housing casework services to clients. The Housing Case Manager will process the intake of clients, maintain and manage a caseload, be responsive with follow-ups to clients, provide assistance to clients in obtaining various government subsidies and resources. Additionally, the Housing Case Manager will provide referrals for legal support. The Primary Duties and Responsibilities are outlined below:

Responsibilities:

● Case work

○ Support and conduct in-take of clients

○ Manages and works through an established caseload

○ Assess clients’ needs and develops an individualized plan to secure safe and permanent housing and/or eligibility for social services

○ Assist clients in completing housing applications and helps to process applications such as; Housing Connect, SCRIE, DRIE, One-Shot Deal, Section 8 and all other housing programs that may be relevant

○ Works closely with State and City-Agencies such as, but not limited to; the Department of Finance (DOF), Human Resources Administration (HRA), Department of Social Services (DSS) and community-based organizations that help to provide housing assistance

○ Ability to research rent history in order to assess any rent payment discrepancies if needed, by processing proper requests to New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR)

● Strategy + Reports

○ Provide housing related material/information for communication purposes to our Programming Team

○ Maintains and oversees all data collection regarding outcomes of cases and general information to help create bi-annual reports

● Community Resources

○ Develop and maintain a database of resources, including a listing of brokers, landlords, and management companies, Community-Based Organizations, Community Partners and any other institution that provides resources to assist community members

○ Engage in community outreach efforts to identify housing opportunities and/ or provide housing resources

○ Participate in meetings with prospective brokers and landlords

● Responsible for ensuring a safe, caring environment for clients of WOTM

● Ability to travel to events as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

● Relevant professional experience in community affairs, working with diverse low-income and elderly populations

● Experience with landlord and tenant mediation

● Experience in public policy, urban planning, economic development, or affordable housing.

● Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively within a collaborative, mission-driven team environment.

● Possesses a positive professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills to foster a productive workplace culture.

● A proactive problem-solver with a proven capacity for self-directed work and cross-functional cooperation.

● Bilingual, Spanish preferred.

● Proven commitment to social justice and racial equity.

Salary: $30 an hour. Monday through Friday, some weekends, and evenings if necessary. This position is Full-time with a health benefits package.

● Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 40 pounds)

● Operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

● No climbing of ladders or other devices.

● Move up and down stairs with limited difficulty.

● Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
