Overview

Join our vibrant culinary team as a Sushi Apprentice, where your passion for food and eagerness to learn will take center stage! This dynamic role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills in Japanese cuisine, specifically in sushi preparation, under the guidance of experienced chefs. As a Sushi Apprentice, you will be immersed in the art of sushi making, food safety protocols, and kitchen operations, all while contributing to an energetic and fast-paced environment. This paid position is designed for aspiring culinary professionals eager to hone their craft and grow within the food industry.

Duties

Assist in preparing a variety of sushi dishes, including rolling, slicing, and plating with precision and attention to detail
Follow established recipes and presentation standards to ensure consistency and quality in every dish
Support the kitchen team with food preparation tasks such as ingredient chopping, portioning, and mise en place setup
Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including knives, rice cookers, and sushi rolling mats
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of workstations in accordance with food safety sanitizing procedures
Learn proper handling and storage of raw fish and other ingredients to ensure freshness and safety
Contribute to high-volume production during busy service times while adhering to food safety management practices

Requirements

Previous experience in dietary aide roles or food service environments is preferred but not required; enthusiasm for learning is essential
Basic knowledge of food handling, preparation techniques, and kitchen safety procedures
Familiarity with menu planning or culinary experience in fine dining settings is a plus
Strong knife skills and experience with food production techniques such as poaching, braising, grilling, and cooking are advantageous
Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently in a high-volume setting
Experience with food safety sanitizing procedures and food safety management systems
Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
Prior catering or restaurant experience is beneficial but not mandatory; willingness to learn on the job is key
