Assistant Manager – New Quick Lube (Oil Change) Opening in Central Massachusetts

Location: Spencer / Leicester / Worcester, MA area

Are you an experienced automotive service professional who takes pride in leading a team, building customer trust, and keeping a fast-paced shop running smoothly? We are hiring an Assistant Manager for a brand-new express oil change shop opening in Central Massachusetts.

This is an opportunity to join a locally owned business at the ground level and play a meaningful role in building the shop’s team, culture, and reputation. The Assistant Manager will work closely with the Store Manager to oversee daily operations, train and support technicians, provide excellent customer service, and ensure every vehicle is serviced safely and efficiently.

Prior quick-lube, automotive service, retail management, or customer-service leadership experience is strongly preferred. We can teach our systems and processes, but we are looking for someone who already demonstrates reliability, sound judgment, leadership, and a genuine commitment to doing quality work.

What You’ll Do

Assist the Store Manager with daily shop operations
Lead, coach, and support technicians throughout each shift
Help create schedules, assign work, and maintain proper staffing coverage
Open or close the shop when assigned
Ensure services are completed safely, accurately, and efficiently
Build trusting relationships with customers
Explain recommended services clearly and honestly
Address customer questions and resolve concerns professionally
Support sales goals without using high-pressure tactics
Drain and replace motor oil and filters when needed
Check and top off fluids
Inspect tire pressure, air filters, cabin air filters, and wiper blades
Monitor inventory and help ensure the shop remains properly stocked
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment
Enforce company procedures, safety standards, and service expectations
Help train new employees and provide ongoing performance feedback
Support cash-handling, reporting, and other administrative responsibilities as assigned

Customer interaction is a core part of this position. You will not only be supervising automotive service—you will be representing the business during every customer interaction. We are looking for someone who is friendly, confident, trustworthy, and capable of setting the standard for the rest of the team.

What We’re Looking For

Prior experience in quick-lube, oil-change, automotive service, retail management, or a similar customer-facing environment
Previous supervisory or team-lead experience is strongly preferred
Strong customer-service and communication skills
Ability to coach employees, provide clear direction, and hold team members accountable
Reliable transportation and a consistent attendance record (on time).
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Comfort working in a hands-on, fast-paced shop environment
Willingness to perform technician duties and work alongside the team when needed
Ability to remain calm and professional during busy periods or customer concerns
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, bend, crouch, and work in varying temperatures
Must be at least 18 years old
Valid driver’s license preferred

Bonus Qualifications

Quick-lube or oil-change management experience
Automotive maintenance or repair experience
Retail sales or service-management experience
Experience with scheduling, inventory, cash handling, or performance reporting
A genuine interest in people, machines, cars, and trucks
Experience training employees

Physical and Work Environment

On your feet for most of the shift in an active automotive shop
Regular lifting, bending, crouching, and hands-on work
Exposure to varying temperatures, moderate noise, vehicle exhaust, oil, and automotive fluids
Fast-paced work environment where teamwork and attention to detail are essential
Must be willing to assist in all areas of the operation when needed
