Hours: 40+ hours per week with flexibility needed for meetings, training sessions, or Agency-wide activities, as scheduled. Some evening and weekend hours required.

Background: Pathways for Change, Inc. is a Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Office certified, tax- exempt charitable 501(c) (3) agency, established in 1973, and Incorporated in 1981. With a long standing record of accomplishments and a commitment to reaching the diverse communities within Worcester County, the Pathways is proudly one of the leading rape crisis centers in Massachusetts and has served as an example of promising practices nationally. Since opening our doors in 1973, Pathways has been committed to the development of comprehensive services to the communities within our service area, which includes 47 cities and towns in the Greater Worcester, Leominster/Fitchburg and Gardner areas.

The Multicultural and Multilingual Counseling and Advocacy Program, supported in part by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, a VOCA grant administered by the Massachusetts Office of Victims’ assistance, and a VAWA grant administered by the Massachusetts Office of Safety & Security, provides direct supportive services and counseling to survivors of, and those directly affected by, sexual violence throughout 47 cities and towns in Central Massachusetts. These free and confidential services are offered to any individual over the age of 12 and are offered in American Sign Language, English, Portuguese and Spanish. Free services include a 24-hour hotline; emergency room, police station & court accompaniment; safety planning and group and individual counseling.

The Deaf Survivor Program (DSP) was born through a collaboration of three agencies, bringing together expertise and experience in Survivors’ services, prevention and education, the Deaf community and culture, and the Deaf independent living movement. This Program, built within the structure of the Pathways for Change, Inc., as the lead agency, and based on the expertise and experience of Our Deaf Sisters’ Center and The Deaf/Hard of Hearing Independent Living Program of The Center for Living and Working, established the first culturally appropriate and accessible counseling and advocacy program for Deaf Survivors of sexual assault, sexual abuse, and domestic violence in the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts.

The Sexual Assault Youth Education (SAYE) Program is supported by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the United Way. Operating throughout Central Massachusetts in cooperation with local School systems, the Program uses a four-level, social ecological model developed by the Center for Disease Control to better explain sexual violence and potential strategies for prevention. This model considers the complex interplay between individual, relationship, community, and societal factors, and allows us to address risk and protective factors from multiple domains. The SAYE program has incorporated the development of comprehensive prevention strategies through a continuum of activities that address all levels of the social ecological model.

The Hotline Coordinator is a member of the Counseling Department who coordinates the volunteer recruitment and training activities associated with improving access for community members to counseling, advocacy and prevention services. In addition, this staff person creates schedules for Hotline and Accompaniment services and provides limited counseling and crisis intervention for survivors of sexual assault.

Primary Responsibilities: Under the guidance of the Director of Counseling, the Hotline Coordinator is responsible for the operation of the Agency’s 24/7/365 Hotline service. In addition to the recruitment and training activities for Agency Volunteers and On-Call staff, this individual develops, staffs and implements monthly schedules for Hotline and Accompaniment services. The position involves significant administrative and community organizational responsibilities throughout Central Massachusetts. This includes insuring that all volunteer goals and objectives are met and volunteer activities are executed in accordance with applicable contractual obligations and State and Federal regulations. The Hotline Coordinator recruits, trains and supervises volunteers and provides direction, coordination, and consultation for all volunteer functions within the Agency.

Desired Qualifications (Primary):

Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a professional manner; bilingual preferred.
Demonstrated capability to conduct one’s self in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with the public and/or with difficult situations.
Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers.
Proficient in basic computer applications, such as Office 365, Adobe Acrobat and internet usage
Training in sexual assault counseling, (or ability and willingness to obtain) required. (Pathways will provide)
Have job-related experience, such as working in a rape crisis center, managing volunteer programs, and/or leading teams and/or organizations.
Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and successfully meet deadlines.
Commitment to integration of multicultural perspective within all aspects of work and commitment to social change.
Ability to work flexible schedule including some nights and weekends.
Knowledge of management principles and evaluation techniques related to programs that involve a cadre of volunteers.
