About WyoMicro

Founded in 1999 as the Wyoming Women's Business Center, WyoMicro is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit headquartered in Laramie, WY. Our mission is to empower Wyoming entrepreneurs, especially women, through counseling, training, and microfinance programs that help them start, expand, and sustain small businesses.

Position Summary

The Executive Director is the strategic and operational leader of WyoMicro, responsible for advancing the organization's mission, financial health, and statewide impact. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED leads a hybrid team distributed across Wyoming, oversees the microloan program, and serves as the public face of the organization with partners, funders, state legislators, and the entrepreneurs we serve.

This role is ideal for a seasoned nonprofit leader with deep finance or lending expertise who is energized by building team culture across distance, expanding access to capital and resources, and representing Wyoming's small business community on a statewide stage.

Key Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership & Strategy

● Set and execute WyoMicro's strategic vision in partnership with the Board of Directors, ensuring alignment with mission and long-term sustainability.

● Serve as the principal advisor to the Board, providing transparent reporting on financial performance, program outcomes, and organizational risk.

● Lead annual planning, budgeting, and performance measurement against mission-driven goals.

Lending & Financial Oversight

● Oversee the microloan program, including portfolio health, underwriting standards, risk management, and compliance with funder and regulatory requirements.

● Partner with the Lending Director on credit policy, loan committee processes, and growth of the loan portfolio.

● Ensure strong financial controls, accurate reporting, and prudent stewardship of restricted and unrestricted funds.

● Maintain a working understanding of lending practices and microfinance trends to guide program evolution.

Statewide Representation & Partnerships

● Serve as the primary public representative of WyoMicro across Wyoming, building and sustaining relationships with state legislators, agency partners, economic development organizations, chambers of commerce, and the small business community.

● Cultivate strategic partnerships that expand WyoMicro's reach, particularly into underserved regions of the state.

● Represent WyoMicro at conferences, legislative sessions, and statewide convenings.

Team Culture & People Leadership

● Lead and develop a hybrid team distributed across Wyoming, building a cohesive, mission-driven culture across distance.

● Foster an environment of accountability, learning, and care, where staff feel connected to one another and to the entrepreneurs they serve.

● Oversee hiring, professional development, performance management, and compensation philosophy in partnership with the Board.

● Model the values of empowerment, equity, and economic vitality that guide WyoMicro's work.

Program Expansion & Mission Delivery

● Drive statewide expansion of WyoMicro's core programs: the microloan program, the women entrepreneurs community, and education and resources for starting or growing a microbusiness in Wyoming.

● Identify gaps in access and design strategies to reach Wyomingites in every region of the state.

● Ensure programs are responsive to the realities of Wyoming's small business owners and grounded in measurable outcomes.

Fundraising & Resource Development

● Partner with the Board and staff to secure the funding needed to sustain and grow WyoMicro, including grants, individual giving, and earned revenue.

● Steward relationships with major funders, including federal, state, and private partners.

● Support grant strategy, reporting, and compliance in collaboration with program staff.

Required Qualifications

● Demonstrated experience in finance, lending, or microfinance, with the credibility to lead a microlender.

● Nonprofit leadership experience, including familiarity with board governance, grant funding, and mission-driven operations.

● Strong networker and relationship builder, comfortable representing an organization to state legislators, agency leaders, funders, and community partners.

● Proven ability to build and sustain team culture across a hybrid, geographically distributed staff.

● Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate financial concepts for non-financial audiences and to advocate publicly for small business and entrepreneurship.

● Sound judgment, financial acumen, and the ability to balance mission and sustainability.

● Comfort with technology, including video conferencing, CRM systems, and document collaboration tools.

● Must reside in Wyoming or be willing to relocate; able to work from the Laramie office on a hybrid schedule and travel statewide as needed.

Bonus Qualifications

● Prior experience in CDFI lending or community development finance.

● Experience as a small business owner or entrepreneur.

● Familiarity with Wyoming's small business ecosystem, economic development landscape, or state government.

● Experience leading statewide or multi-site nonprofit programs.

● Bilingual or multilingual communication skills.
