A Day in the Life of a Perfusionist
Works under the direct supervision of the Cardiac Surgeon and the general direction of the Director of Surgical Services. The Certified Clinical Perfusionist serves as a technical specialist in highly technical and complex procedures in the preparation and operation of the heart-lung machine, cell saver, the plasma saver, and any other relative equipment necessary. Employee will maintain confidentiality at all times. Manages supplies and inventory to meet both Capital and Operational budgets.

Here is What You Will Be Doing:-
Works closely with the Cardiac surgeons, Cardiologists, Anesthesiologists, Operating room nurses, and other medical disciplines in the performance of cardiovascular procedures.
- Assures the proper functioning of the heart-lung bypass machine through rigid quality assurance procedures.
- Maintains strict aseptic technique which is required to institute and maintain total body perfusion.
- Prepares and assembles the entire extracorporeal apparatus with appropriate modifications and adaptations compatible with the size of the patient, cardiac pathology, degree of illness of the patient, and the surgical technical problems that may be encountered.
- Maintains precise understanding and competency of the technical phases involved in the Bypass procedure.
- Adheres to the technical operation of the cell saver and the plasma saver, and the Balloon Pump management.
- Maintains constant surveillance of the patient’s clinical and physiological functions during the procedure.
- Gives medication appropriate to maintenance of Cardio-Pulmonary bypass and perfusion.
- Collaborates with the OR Inventory specialist, OR Supervisor, Service Coordinator and Materials Management to maintain adequate inventory of equipment and supplies necessary for CP Bypass.
- Maintains accurate documentation of procedures as well as quality assurance records and files them appropriately.
- Presents educational presentations to department staff as needed and requested, and as identified by the perfusionist.
- Maintains 24 hour on-call status.

Current Certified Clinical Perfusionist from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP)

14 Days: Cheyenne Regional AHA RQI within fourteen (14) calendar days of start date
